Potential RP Pitch
« on: »
Hey everyone, it's ya boy, Crunchy-Dorito. Just had an idea for a new RP brewing up, and I wanted to see who'd be interested.

I don't have a system or game in mind yet, and I figure adding another Vampires campaign would make everyone go nuts, so I'll definitely figure it out.

Currently, I had an idea for something set during either the late Bronze age, iron age, or Early Classical period.

This gives us room to work within historical settings involving Mycenean, Attican or Peleponnesian Greece; the Roman republic or empire; or, anything involving Byzantium or the Holy Roman Empire.

Thoughts?

Are you talking a vampire game set during the Iron Age or a low magic fantasy campaign

No vampires. Unless people want vampires. I offered those specific time periods because I wanted to do something with more historical grounding.

Ok, so, everyone who may want to join, here's the rub:

I have decided to design this RP as a low-fantasy set during an indeterminate point during the Roman empire. It's meant to be an alternate history with elements of magic, along with magical creatures and races.

Assuming anyone wants to do this, I will give a list of specific Roman emperors to pick as the reigning power so as to set some socio-political context for the story.

I hope this gets interest?

Could be interesting. The Greeks and Romans have a rich history to play with.

Full disclosure: that was the reason I chose to do this. The aesthetic of the Mediterranean iron age civilizations and their various historical tales and mythologies are just so jam-packed with interesting things.

And there are so many delightfully insane Emperors to choose from.

I'm stating right now I'm playing somebody that will never be in Rome.

Maxx and I being the big cheese on the site have to hold off on votes till I see some of the members post either interested or not. I think you do have a cool pitch with some neat potential possibilities though.

Give it some time the members will come and read and rally. If darkflame is voting for a yes that just means we need one other player to say yes they would play and I can get this board set up, others after that usually join in once they see a board that's been made and set up with the intro pitch/world building info. You could pitch that write up here as to what someone would see as the first opening post/teaser for the world.

A more thorough outline would certainly help.

Okay you’ve got me intrigued, but I need a bit more information about the topic before I can commit to saying yes or no to wanting to play.

That being said I’m going to poke the Bull Elephant (Hannibal reference here) in the thread.

Imperial Rome spans a large chunk of time, relatively speaking. Now you mentioned that you were going to look to the bat shit crazy emperors of Rome you’re looking at 27 BC to 68 AD which is the Julio-Claudian Dynasty. This is the dynasty that had both Caligula and Nero; however, the time period in which you want to set it in is the Bronze or Iron Age. These two ages are during Pre-history, or when written history had yet to begin.

Not much was going on in Italy and Greece during these time periods...so you might want to look at the classical period which is where our Greek and Roman myths are concerned. But if you still want to set it in the Bronze or Iron age, we do have the Egyptians and their pantheon to dabble in. And you can get crazy Pharoahs (they did inter-marry, and sire children with their daughters/mothers/sisters/aunts).

Now this brings me to something Jallyn mentioned to me about beast men. Are we talking like the movie Gods of Egypt? Or are you thinking about sticking to the tried and true Centaurs and the such?

What other mythical/magical critters are you thinking of having? I know you said no vampires, unless someone wanted them in the game.

And please don’t take my asking these things and going all history buff as a critique, you can ask Darkflame about my penchant for doing research on things that interest or intrigue me. My friends often times use me for helping them create characters that need to have an in-depth link to historical events. To the point of having myself banned from helping by one GM they’ve played with.

No worries at all, my friend. I did list a litany of historical eras to choose from, if I was incorrect or non-specific, that's my bad.

Like I said though, if this gets enough traction, I'll post a list of emperors to choose from and we can cast a vote. It'll determine the kind of world you guys will be occupying, and I can go from there.

I think Wyn wants more details on what you would prefer to run as a game master and then for you to firm up the mythical creatures and beasts in your land before she can say yeah or nay. So if you had to pitch this as this is the write up oI want on my RP board what would your blurb look like to entice players. Hook us up and tell us your vision. If ppl arent vibing we can work to maybe make it a better era or different creatures in use etc.

What Jallyn said.

For me historical settings aren't a problem. And I like the idea of having an Anubis walking around who's half man half jackal.

Never mess with Gods or Emperors.  They'll both screw you up.

I will have to get back to you guys on that. I messed up my back something fierce, and posting is kind of low on my list of priorities  I'm sorry.
