This is how it all begins...

Imagine a world with no heroes: a world where no one was there to save you at the very last moment.

Imagine that this world was your doing. Your fear, your paranoia, your ignorance were the cause for the downfall and complete destruction of an entire genus of people that dedicated their lives and their more than human abilities to the safety of mankind. This was the time when the world decided it no longer held a place for heroes.  A time when we decided that all those who had looked after us and kept us safe were now something to fear, to loathe, to regulate and dominate.

The Metahuman registration act was intended to do such wondrous things, it was intended to strip the heroes of those masks that kept them separate from the rest of society, but what it really did was strip the planet of the only defense we had from what was to come.

They arrived only a single year after we thought we had rid ourselves of the costumed crusaders; they came from far beyond we could have ever imagined and with them they brought the ruthless destruction that we, ourselves had wrought on our heroes. We were lost, but thankfully, Mother Nature didn't give up as quickly as her puny creations.  She had continued in her pursuit to evolve the human race, despite all our valiant efforts to restrain her and the new heroes quietly emerged to once again, to save us from the outside threat and more importantly, ourselves.

Nature prevailed.

It is now barely five years since the return of the heroes and the end of The Great War.  Our planet has reached a modicum of stability but, even that is fragile in the hands of our saviors, when there are forces hidden within the ranks of the super-powered looking to turn the tide against those that had once sought to eliminate them from existence.

We are the protectors of mankind.

They are destruction. 

We are The New Guard.
