Title: Whos up for what?
Post by: LadyJallyn on
With the weather getting cooler you all know what that means. Its time to RP. Whos in the mood for what?

We might need to open up some new threads? I'm looking for moderators for new boards too. I am interesting in gaming but the prospect of having to run several boards is less than inspiring. So my wonderful peeps, tell me what you guys are in the mood for genre wise and lets see if we can hammer something out...

I'm up for keeping Anita Blake, Bloodlines and Dept. 7 going... I can also run something if you would like.  Mon,Wed and Fri are a little rough for me right now due to the hubby being on dialysis those mornings but I can try to get on a little later in the day on those days.  The rest of the week is open for me.

I'd be very interested to see what sort of pitch you want to toss out there for running something Goosekat.

Bri and I have over the years always had to run the boards and both of us are feeling the need to be able to play in a game that we don't have to be in charge of the story line. When you have an idea of where things are going it does take away from the fun factor. The only real joy as a moderator for story boards is getting to screw with the player and make em sweat/ watching how they react as the plot unfolds.

So tell me what you are thinking? If you wanted you could even run something based off the boards SO if you want an AB thread or a blood lines or something let me know. I love bloodlines but Im at the point that we are going into Toronto with a group of players and I have zero desire to run that part of the story line due to several factors. I don't mind playing NPCs  for the portion but I did mention to Brian that I would have loved for him to take over the Toronto Chapter and he didn't seem too interested. Thus the stall in that thread.

I am really sorry for letting it go to hell. BLOODLINES was by far my favorite RP thread on this site and Ive let it just stagnate. :(

<see previous post for comments about wanting to play>

Toronto was always your baby, hon.  You had solid plans and I was wanting to come along for the wild ride.  Having it handed to me is like a surgeon giving me the scalpel and saying 'Go ahead, take out your own appendix'.

I've given a little thought (ok a lot of thought) to what I could run.  It would depend on two major factors. The first being on how many active players I get and the second is what type of game everyone would like me to run (I could run more then one if needed).  So the types of games I could run are as follows: for any size group I could run; something based on the Deadlands RPG game (the original not the D20 remake), something base on the Rifts RPG game, something D&D based, a spy thrillers type game (more along the lines of Jason Bourne then James Bond), a mystery thriller type game (along the lines of an Agatha Christie novel), something based on the original 'V' the mini series tv show (not the 2000 something attempt at a remake), a post - apocalypse based game.  For a smaller sized group (between 2 and 6 players) I could run any of the previously mentioned game scenarios as well as the following; a Stargate RPG based game, a Recon RPG based game (Marine Force Recon during the Vietnam War), a TMNT style game, a Dreamwalker RPG style game, something based along the lines of Indiana Jones (think Raiders of the Lost Ark more than the other movies), something based on the first Bloodrayne movie.  Due to the fact that I have never read any of the Anita Blake books and I am not at all familiar with the White Wolf system I would prefer not to run anything based on those.  If anyone has any other ideas for me than please let us all know.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

I think you're looking at 2-6 as a maximum, rather than a minimum

The question is -  what do YOU want to run?

Deadlands RPG - I'd be interested.  I'm aware of the system but haven't really played it.  Love the card based set-up.
Rifts RPG game -has possibilities.  I've done genre crossing games before.  They can be fun
D&D based -an old standby
spy thrillers type game (more along the lines of Jason Bourne then James Bond), -tends to be more solo character concepts
a mystery thriller type game - also a more solo character concept, with one central character and the rest just support
'V' the mini series tv show -it has possibilities
a post - apocalypse based game.  I'd be up for that
Stargate RPG based game, Original movie or the god awful spin-off?
a Recon RPG based game (Marine Force Recon during the Vietnam War), maybe
a TMNT style game, heh - anthromorphs for the win
a Dreamwalker RPG style game -not familiar with this
Indiana Jones (think Raiders of the Lost Ark more than the other movies) again, more a solo scenario
 Bloodrayne movie.  -again, possibilities

A little clarification for our Anal Commander and Chief... I said between 2-6 players for a few ideas because it would be extremely difficult to run them with only 1 person and almost impossible to run them with more then 6 people (especially Recon as Force Recon teams are always 6 man teams).

Deadlands is a great game, the only caveat to running it would be no Huxter characters due to the difficulty in using a deck of cards to throw the hexes (it is not that I don't trust people to be honest with the draw of the deck, but I really don't trust people when I can't verify the info for myself).

Rifts is a genre unto itself.

D&D based is indeed an old stand by of a large number of GM's.  I do mine a little different as I combine D&D with another similar game called Arduin and then put my own spin on things.

Spy Thriller... maybe I should have said more along the lines of the Top Secret or Spycraft RPG's.  If you have ever seen the tv show Leverage it would be along similar lines, only instead of a team of former crooks working for individual people you would be a team of spies, each with your own unique talents.  You would work for a small, underfunded government or private agency with no super high-tech gadgets.

Mystery Thriller... you would be a team working for a detective agency

Stargate RPG based... although I did enjoy the tv show I would have to base the game on the original movie.  The stargate would have been opened and operational for only 2 years but travel through it has only been ongoing for the 6 months prior to your team being activated.  As the Russian stargate program is not known to exist at this time and the other world countries do not know of the program all player characters must be from the U.S.

Recon RPG... all player characters mus be male.  As all Recon teams are comprised of exactly 6 people it would extremely difficult to have more than that number of players.  Although player characters could always be rotated on and off of patrol.  If a player desperately wanted to play a female I could figure out a way to make that work but they would have to play a local (i.e. Montagnard) guide.

Dreamwalker... the core book should have been with all the other RPG ebooks that I gave you when I was up in Canada a couple of years ago.  I can always send it to you, and anyone else if need be.

Indiana Jones style... maybe I should have said more a long the lines of the original Mummy movie with Branden Frasier.  You would play a team of archeologists or treasure hunters who travel around the world (can be set in a variety of time periods) and of course run into trouble at almost every turn.

If you need any more explanation's just let me know
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Maxx on
Deadlands RPG You could always draw the card for the hexes, so even the player doesn't know what will happen until you tell them
Rifts RPG game - Rifts combines several different Palladium titles (Robotech, some fantasy titles)
a post - apocalypse based game.  What sort of apocalypse?  ZA or NA?
a TMNT style game

My top four

Post-apocalypse clarification:  The year is 1956 and the second world war has been over for the last 5 years.  Germany ended the war by releasing a mixture of bio-chemical weapons on Europe which had some unintended side effects... like killing almost 1/3 of the human, plant and animal population of the planet withing the first 18 months.  After 3 years 3/4 of all life on Earth had disappeared.  Those that survived fell into one of two groups: those that had a natural immunity to the mixture that now saturated the air and water, and those that were mutated by it.

Ooooo, the rarely used BA - Biological Apocalypse....

So, no computers, limited technology a partially rebuilt society, likely controlled by the military.  Are the plants slowly spreading to fill in the blank spaces left by the the die-off or are those areas seemingly sterile?

What are the proportions of male to female?  Is there a huge disparity or is there equity?

Did the second world war last until 1951?
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
So our Anal one wants all my little secrets.  Well you want get them, but I will give you a few more tidbits.  Society is scattered and there are rumors of secure enclaves scattered in remote areas.  The military is almost non-existent after the war.  Nuclear weapons were never invented therefore the war raged on longer than anyone foresaw. Due to the deadly attrition on the male population caused by the intense fighting in both the European and Pacific theaters the female population outnumbers the male population.  Most all living things on Earth have mutated, that includes all the plant and animal life (down to and including all insects).  But just like the human population, some plants and animals have a natural immunity.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

Continent of setting?

Character limitations? (no military without good reason, no access to technology, I'm assuming)

What is the interaction between 'norms' and mutants? (violent conflict, peaceful coexistence or a mix)

These are basic premise concepts that everyone will need to know so they can create their characters.

Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
I was planning on setting it in the U.S. but it could take place anywhere in the world really.  The U.S. would be easiest for me to use since I was born and raised here.  Most of the rest of that info I was planning on giving in the game intro (provided is was something people wanted to play).  Military vets will be allowed on a case to case bases but with some restrictions.  You could play a non-mutated human or one of several types of mutated beings (more info would be released on a character creation information page as I am not going to using the standard template for this game).  Limited technology but only to the lvls that would have been around in the 1950's (no real phone communications, occasional radio bursts, most mechanical vehicles no longer operate due to lack of fuel, mechanics and spare parts, things such as bicycles are still usable if you can find one, etc.).  Most mutants are hostile but there are some variations that are neutral if not outright friendly to non-mutants (more info would be released on the game intro and character creations info pages).  Anything else you want to know about this one or any of the other games I have suggested oh Anal One???

Well now, its good to see some excitement going on around here.  I have to admit that it seems a refresher is needed on the board here, and definately, it gets wearing to bare the brunt of a storyline, so I can understand both maxx and j wanting to play in a game instead of run it.  Personally, i'm open to almost anything ... except pure sci fi.  dont really get into that.

I have character ideas for the post Apoc and I'm leaning towards a rifts juicer...
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
So it looks like post - apocalypse for the win.  With Rifts coming in second (or at least I seem to have 2 people for it already).  Let me take a few days to get the info written up then I will talk to LJ about getting the starting boards up and running.  I could probably do it in less time but it is currently 8:20 p.m. and still 92 degrees out side, plus I have picked up a nasty virus that is fucking with my asthma and I feel like total shit right now.  So due to the fact that I can barely breath even with my inhalers and the comp tends to friz during the super high heat of the daylight hours it will probably take me at least 3 days to get something thrown together.  If anyone else wants me to run something other then these 2 just speak up... I am willing to run up to 4 games at a time and can do solo runs if that is something people really want.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
Maxx send me you basic idea for the post - apocalypse char either by pm or email and I will take a look to see if it will work with my idea for the game then I will let you know what, if anything, needs changing.  Anyone else who has a basic idea for a char feel free to send it to me as well.

As for a Rifts Juicer... please remember that they have a max life span of 5 years after undergoing Juicer augmentation so your char will need to be relatively new to the program (I would say between 6 and 18 months as a Juicer).
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Maxx on
Given the speed at which most threads run, the juicer could be 4 and a half and would still last through 2 years of gaming.  Besides, I like the doomed characters.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
thanks to Maxx for sending his char concept for Safe Harbor (the post - apoc game).  I would like to ask all other potential players to send me there basic char concept by pm so that I can see if it will work with the basic ideas I have for the game.  I may also send each player a couple of ideas that I come up with for their backgrounds as well as possibly allowing a free skill or two based on the concept sent to me.

I have a least two players who seem interested in doing a Rifts RPG based game... I can run it with only the two but it would be better with at least two more people.  If I don't get two more I can always allow more then one char to be run if people think they can handle that
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

Hmm.. still deciding if I like the post apoc game, not my usual thing... I have played rifts before with a group here at home, so I am a bit familiar with that one, just a bit curious about where it would be set and if there are any other details that a potential player should know about it.

Ooooohh, I like this post-apocalyptic 50's stuff going on! I'll have to brainstorm a bit before I get a real character concept going, but this looks to be awesome and I am definitely interested!

As for Rifts, I will research what that is when my internet connection isn't quite so terrible! I probably won't have time for a third RP, though, if I'm joining the post-apoc and Bloodlines+D7 are coming back.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

I can help you with the Rift's research.  I've got it all on my lappy.  And, since you're coming over to get your tablet software installed, we can kill about 11 birds with one stone.

For those people who are thinking of joining the Safe Harbor game (post-apocolypse), all PC's will start in the Miami-Dade area of Florida.  Please figure out how your char got there if they were not already living or going to school in the area.

I will be ready to post the boards either Saturday or Sunday.  Most likely mid-day on Sunday.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
Yes I am allowing a broad range of books and chars for Rifts.  But if you have ever played the game you will know that most GM's will severally limit the types of chars and the books you can use for the game.  Since I am going to start the game in the Vampire Kingdoms and that is one of the most dangerous regions I am allowing a wide range of chars that can survive in the area and against the types of monster you will encounter there.  I will also be slowing moving the team down into South America so the broader range of char types allowed the better.  Depending on the number of players I will allow up to 2 PC's per person (provided they think they can handle running more than 1 char in the game).

Hey Goosekat, did you have a particular  system you're going to be using for the Safe Harbor game?

Title: Re: Whos up for what?

Goosekat, do you have anything in mind for mutant-types or anything? I just don't want to go way too crazy here with character concept or anything. Also, anything in mind for like a.... temporary, bare-bones sort of character sheet? Or at least, what sort of traits should I be thinking about? AND I was wondering if... we wanted to have someone who WAS military, or low-ranking, or both, would that be acceptable? ... And if they could be from a different nation. Stranded, per-se. Maybe.

Very excited for Safe Harbour! Its got a real Dieselpunk sound to it..... >v< ♥
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Maxx on
My character concept is former military (first world war) so it is possible.  I'm still tweaking, though.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
concerning Safe Harbor... mutants per say are not allowed, although some chars may have developed certain special abilities due to there exposure to the chemical agents... I have a char sheet developed as well as a list of feats, skills and special abilities... I will try to get a hold of LJ and see about getting the info boards up ... I only have to finish writing up a couple of NPC's before I can really get started on the game.  Chars from outside the U.S. are welcome.  You could be a POW that was being held on U.S. soil (there was at least 1 POW camp in the Miami-Dade area of Florida that held both German and Japanese soldiers), you could be an international business man, a flight attendant, a foreign solder recuperating in a U.S. Military Hospital... the possibilities are pretty much endless.  Since this is not strictly based on history you could even be a spy for one of the Axis Powers that got stuck in the U.S. when the rockets were launched.  History will be used as a very broad and basic outline for this game so let your imagination out to play
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

So am I the only non-military kid here lol
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
No, I went ahead and de-militarized my character completely save for an appropriated jacket. I need the military aesthetic to survive. I NEEDS it!

As far as mutant-ness goes, that sounds fair. I was kind of thinking most of my characters stranger developments would be from exposure anyways, so that works.

EDIT: I should probably mention nearly all these "developments" are hinderances or minor improvements, not super-powers. Except for two, I guess. One which would be enhanced vision if it weren't so busy negating blindness (cataracts) instead of actually eliminating it. The other being a somewhat warped yet highly efficient immune system, which, y'know, is good when your race is fighting extinction. And also helps me explain said strange developments (i.e.: my body decided to fight cataracts with super-vision, wow, that is... just dumb). Other than that, though, most of these changes have just made him look like he's about to keel over.

Aaaand I'm saying all these things like they're set in stone, but actually.... I'm trying to ask.... Are these things okay??? >___<
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
@ Summyr .... there is a special ability in the game called toughness which will allow you to withstand more damage and disease better then normal... also, if you were not killed out right or mutated into a real nasty thing then you have a natural immunity to the chemical agents already... as for the cataracts, depending on how long your char has had them then your other senses would already have begun to heighten to compensate for the reduced or lack of vision.  There are two special abilities in the game currently that would also help you, mobility which would allow you to move with very little penalty even with the vision issue and direction sense which means you have an innate ability to sense which direction is which.  I am going to be asking for ideas for additional feats, skills and special abilities once I have the boards up and running.  I could always add a special ability called heightened senses which would give a bonus to all your senses and which would improve the vision of a person with cataracts provided they still had at least 10% vision left.  Complete blindness cannot be reversed even with exposure to all the chemical agents.  If you still want to go a military style char you could be a veteran from the early days of the war that was exposed to something like Mustard Gas which is why he/she developed the cataracts in the first place.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
I like the idea about heightened senses, though... My character is also deaf (I've been dying to play a character that signs for ages and I figured this was a good opportunity).... So I might eliminate the cataracts altogether, or have it... less. Since he's already inhibited by that not being able to hear thing. Though my original idea about the origin of his deafness related to the cataracts (explosions aren't fun), so I don't... know.

I toyed with the vet idea for a while, but then he just kind of came together as this totally-non-militant thing. I actually went the exact opposite direction and thought it'd be cool if I could perchance have a Jewish character who fled Germany (or other occupied area, but preferably Germany) under some rotton circumstances.

My one idea, which is again bare-bones and convoluted and is in desperate need of refining: in the late days of Nazi anti-Judaism, said character and family hiding him+others were subject to repeat inspection (one of the later families inspected as they lived in the country?) and said character and family (apparently total badass rebels) were prepared for the worst, somehow managed to kill inspecting officers when their suspicions were aroused, decided it would be a good idea to don a dead officer's uniform in an attempt to escape, and didn't get very far before America swooped in to attack all sneaky-like and took said character as a P.O.W., obviously mistaking him for an enemy soldier. If I make said character deaf from birth, said character only knows German Sign Language at this point and cannot prove his innocence. If I make said character deaf from attack, said character is totally futile in his attempts to communicate still, deafly babbling at Americans in German. Proceeds to be stuck at P.O.W. camp in Florida for quite some time until, boof, apocalyptic events.

That's sort of.... basically what I had in mind. Just as far as how he got to be in Florida. I could also give him much more likely and less shitty circumstances by which he could make his way to Florida. Or I could scrap the whole Jewish concept altogether (but I really REALLY like the idea so maybe we can work around it)? I dunno. I know its far from the point of being good, but is that basic concept okay?

Sign language can cross a lot of language barriers.  Many of the signs represent entire words, so you would be able to communicated fairly well.  And, once they determined that you were deaf from birth they would know you weren't a soldier.

Oh and Goosekat?  I'm still tweaking.  The marine is out of the running and the other two are looking like they want to combine.  The Great Depression left him high and dry so he took up poaching in the everglades as a way to survive.  Or something like that.  No trip to France during WW2...

And I'm narrowing down my Rifts options.  I'm definitely doing a medic/healer type character but I'm trying to decide between Rift Priest or Healing Shaman.  I'd try to combine the two (magic healing combines with psionic healing with some first aid thrown in for good measure) but none of the Pantheons listed are Native American and  I can't see a Native American following the Gods of another continent.  Except maybe Aztec... Hmm... need to do a little research

For Rifts are you using the D% system or  the d20 system?

I will get what I have ready up either later tonight (Thursday the 25th) or tomorrow afternoon (Friday the 26th)
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
for those who wish to play the Rifts game and have the Core book, char creation explanation starts on page 8 ... follow the basic rules as laid out in the book but instead of rolling 3d6 for each stat roll 4d6 and drop the lowest die rolled, also re-roll any 1's or 2's that may come up (do this before dropping the lowest die roll)... for HP, instead of rolling 1 extra d6 roll 2 extra d6 and add them to your HP (re-roll any 1's that come up on these dice, do not re-roll 2's however)... S.D.C. is rolled according to the book... if you are not using a psionic R.C.C. or O.C.C. roll for possible psionic ability as per the book (if you wish to do so)... feel free to use the option tables to round out your char if you wish, this includes the insanity tables... please remember that chars are starting at 3rd lvl so adjust all scores and abilities as needed to reflect this   if you do not have a copy of the official Rifts char sheet I can email one to anyone who would like it or you can download a PDF copy from www.rpgsheets.com (this site has gaming sheets for a multitude of games, not just char sheets but gm sheets and others as well)

Goosekat is having some trouble accessing the site, so don't finalize your character until she is able to get back on with some additional vital information...

Do we still roll the extra D6 if the stat is 16, 17 or 18?

LMAO!  My rolls were 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17!  Not quite in that order but pretty close.

The only changes for Rifts chars are what were previously stated, all other rules apply... this is really starting to suck, I can get  in on my cell but not on any of the 4 comps in the house.... don't know what the hell get is going on...might take my lappy across the street to Peets Coffee and see if I can get online there....otherwise I will see if I can get the rest of the info up via cell
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

ok found a way to get back in game other than my cell.... something is messed up with my home router it seems.... can get on with the lappy if I use our mobile hotspot that we now have.... so I will get the rest of the info up and then we can all get started

The only board that is not up for the Safe Harbor game is the NPC board... I will have at least 2 NPC's up by the end of the weekend though..... depending on how many people join the game I may allow 2 chars per person if they think they can handle it..... if you have not already starting making your char(s) please start by reading the info on the Things you need to know board first, then the character templet board.... if anyone has any questions about anything please send me a pm.... if anyone has suggestions about background professions, or talents please send me a pm..... if you have already starting working on your char using the char sheet please check it again as I have added a new category to the char templet and the char sheet..... talents have been posted as 3 separate boards (1 for feats, 1 for skills and 1 for special abilities) as the site would not let me post all the info on one board so please make sure you use all 3 of these boards to make your char...

If you wish to use colors in your posts the only color that I ask you not to use is red as I plan on using that one for any announcements (such as if I decide to jump the game time ahead I will post the announcement in red)... if anyone has an issue seeing red on these boards please let me know and I will choose a different color.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

Are you using the World of Darkness character creation system?
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
For the Safe Harbor game:  I have had 1 person send me a number of very good questions about the game and most of those answers will be given here so that everyone can benefit from them:

1) What year is the game set in, and what year did everything start to fall apart and degenerate into the world we're in now?

A) The game begins in April of 1956.  WWII ended in August of 1951 when Germany launched V-2 rockets filled with a jumbled combination of biological and chemical agents.

----------------------

2) For the status points on talents (i.e.: if you have Human Biology, you get 1 point Int), a lot of them say to "add one point from ___". Is that meant to mean add a point to that status?

A) There are two ways bonus points work.  1 are points that are added to your stats from a talent and the other is points added to a talent from a stat.  example: Pick Pockets (You have the ability to remove small objects from a targets pocket without their knowledge) (add 1 point from DEX) (add 1 point to concentration) .... in this case you would add 1 point to the talent (from DEX, it does not matter what your total points in DEX is you only add 1 point), and 1 point to a stat (1 point to concentration)

------------------

3) With certain skills, let's say Medical Arts for the sake of example, there are different levels that talk about different skill sets. If I am training to be a Doctor, for instance, would I take First Aid:Basic as well as First Aid:Adv., or are the skills of First Aid:Basic included in your skill set if you already have First Aid:Adv.? Furthermore, if you have Surgery:Basic, are First Aid:Basic and Adv. included in that skill set, or are they separate?

A) I guess this one is a little confusing.  For talents that have more then one lvl such as First Aid you can take either but not both.  Basic will give just the very basic skills and advanced covers everything in basic plus more.  As for talents such as Surgery, I will probably give those who wish to take a talent such as this a free skill (First Aid: Adv) as you would def learn this in your undergraduate medical classes.  For now please take any skills you feel are appropriate for your char and I will send pm's if I feel like you should be able to take a free skill. (this means that for right now you should take First Aid: Adv and Surgery)

---------------------

4) Medical Arts says to take 1pt Concentration for every skill you take past First Aid. Is this past both types of first aid (Basic+Adv.) or just anything past Basic?

A) I should have made this a little more clear as well.  The 1 point per skill is anything listed after First Aid: Basic (if you took First Aid: Adv and CPR you would add 2 points, 1 per skill)

-------------------

6) You know how to preform a surgery hypothetically, but have only ever preformed similar surgeries on animals.... Can you take Surgery:Basic?

A) Yes.  Simply put (vet) after the skill (look at NPC Kathrine Wilks' Religion talent as an example)

@ Maxx... I know just about zero of the World of Darkness system .... this is a game that I have been working on for the past year, with the intent of making it a table top RPG game.... the original was actually a d12 based game but I turned it into a point based system for the site
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
By "from the stat", do you mean actually subtract a point from that stat and add it to the talent? (So if you had 4 DEX, and you are adding a point to the talent, you would then have 3 DEX?)
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
you do not subtract anything from the stat when adding points to talents, and you do not subtract anything from the talents when adding points to stats..... what I mean by "from____" is that the added point(s) are done so because of the stat involved... like in D&D when you add a point to a skill that is based on dex, but in this game added points are not based on how many points you already have in a talent or stat .... look at the 2 NPC's that I have up, that should give you a better understanding of how I am doing it.. if you still have any questions just ask

Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Trellin on
I'm almost ready with my character but I was wondering, regarding the free survival talent that all characters get, whats the difference between the fishing (and I'd ask hunting although it's not listed that I saw) skill and survival?

My thought is that unless my character had a special interest in fishing (or hunting) I wouldn't have to take those skills separately just to be able to travel alone and feed myself comfortably. Is that the case or does survival only cover shelter and obvious stupid stuff such as camping in a bears den?
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
I thought I had hunting on the skills list, but apparently not... I will get it listed.... as to the difference between survival and skills like fishing: the fishing (and soon to be hunting) skill means that you have been a fisherman (or hunter) for a good part of your life, maybe not professionally but more then the occasional weekend fisherman (or hunter)... the survival skills incorporates such things as: you have learned which areas are fairly safe and which are flooded with hostile mutants; which mutants are, if not friendly toward non-mutants at least not down right hostile at the mere sight of them; how to tell if ground water is too contaminated to drink; which of the mutant plants are safe to approach and which will try to kill you, etc.

does that make sense now ?

I've had it happen a few times. Last time was when I tried to upload my char bio for the safe harbor game last week.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
I was able to get part of Trellin's char bio up.  But now I am getting that damn time out error again.  It seems that everytime I start getting that error I can not get into the site for the next several days except by my cell phone.  I am going to foward Trellin's bio to Maxx and see if he can get the whole thing uploaded.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
Coud it be the browser you're using? I used to get a lot of errors on certain sites while I was using Firefox, and even more before that on Safari and IE.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
I use firefox almost exclusively but have slso tried crome and IE... still get the same results, don't know if the issue is on my end or the sites end.ending
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Trellin on
I have rarely been on this site with anything other than chrome or occasionally firefox and I never had a single issue until the upgrade happened at the beginning of the year.

I'm not saying that the software upgrade is responsible but that was definitely when my site connection issues began for the first time.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Darkflame on
Strange, I have always used IE and I have never had any problem getting on this site, or logging in.  Perhaps the problem may lie in the internet provider?
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
Okay, so defs not the browser... Its less likely to be the website if only one other person is having occasional trouble with it, but yeah, it might be the internet provider. Or your computer is rebelling and this is early signs that its going to go sentient and start a robotic rebellion against the human race. Either way, I hope it stops being so rebellious soon. That sucks. :(
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
I have the same net provider that I have been using for the last 2 years and this issue has only been occurring for the past month or two so I don't think its my provider.  And it's not just my comp as it is happening on all 4 comps in the house.  I think something got messed up in the home network but the hubby is insisting that it has to be on the sites end, even though I seem to be the only one having a reoccuring issue.

Title: Re: Whos up for what?

well, you can start by resetting your router and /or modem. just turn it off ( or unplug), count to ten, and turn back on. sometimes something that simple fixes connection type issues.

I have yet to post anything more than a paragraph of so of text and I feel it would be just obnoxious to post the remainder of the bio in a series of posts 1 paragraph long. Although, I might want to take that as a hint to write smarter, not longer. Down side to NaNoWriMo perhaps :)

for all Safe Harbor player.... I am going to ask that all players make a very small adjustment to their chars... I would like you to put (x point(s) free) after any free skills that I have given you

example: Move Silent 3 + 1 = 4 (3 points free)

this will help me will knowing which skills I have allowed to be taken for free by which players

also, if you were given free skills please make sure that any points used for new skills are reflected in your stats (this includes your Tri stats as they change with points allocated in previous stats)

I believe I have given every player 4 points of free skills, if you were given more or less please let me know so that I can make any necessary adjustments

if anyone needs help with this please pm me
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Sonovaditch on
After adding on the four free points, does that mean we can expend the points we had there before on other things?
Title: Re: Whos up for what?
Post by: Goosekat on
Correct...you can either put those points into current skills (making sure not to go over the maximum starting points)...or you can take new skills with them.
Title: Re: Whos up for what?

.... I just realized you literally said that in your last post. Derp. Wow. Sorry, I totally missed that! Thank you, anyways. I'll go adjust mine now, in any case.

Now, if I can just remember what those three freebie points were.  Riding, pistol and, rifle, I think....

Swapped them for 2 points of Trapping and 1 point of Distilling.  He makes home made hooch...

Awesome.....or not. How good is he? I personally have had both nasty moonshine and damn good moonshine and the difference is unimaginably huge. lol I love that you thought of the distilling skill/profession

I was considering reversing the two, 2 distilling and 1 trapping, since he's already got hunting.
