I am going to try and take part again here regularily.
Although, I've tried to log in the past like 3 days, and it wasn't till today, after I uploaded a new version of java, and loaded firefox, that I was able to even get to the site.
For whatever reason it doesn't want to load in my IE, and I never use firefox.... pretty special that The Elmwood has a browser all to itself on my comp.
-
Firefox is a safer and better browser anyhow April except for facebook. But is does stop all those phishing adds and adverts that you get on there...
A good moral reason for using Forefox over IE would be this...
The last version of IE can now only be installed on Windows, but Firefox can also be installed on other operating systems.
Are you really cool with supporting such an exclusive company such was Microsoft. Fuck the corporate giant that forces PC users to conform to using only their products.
IE leaves you way too open to anal attacks from Trojans spyware and other malware.
The major differences that come to my mind immediately are:
-- Firefox has tabbed browsing; IE just opens new windows
-- Firefox has built-in pop-up blocking.
Also, since IE comes automatically with most Windows installations, and because most people lack the [inclination/expertise] to switch to a non-IE browser, ~70% of PC users use IE. So whenever someone wants to write malicious code (spyware, virus, etc...), they will write it for the widest installed base.
As a result, many bad things that happen on the 'net don't affect PCs browsing with Firefox.
Whos using what broswers now this is dated from back in 2008 but you get the idea.
Internet Explorer: 70.72%
Firefox: 20.27%
Safari: 6.77%
Opera: 0.73%
Netscape: 0.48%
Chrome: 0.78%
Other: 0.24%"
Most crackers usually find it not worth the hassle to find hidden flaws in PCs when you can easily exploit the many publicly-known security holes in commonly used web browsers So you are 70% more likely to have shit show up on your computer that can compromise your security when using IE vs a much smaller chance with Firefox or other browser.

Also I not wanting to be totally biased found a link here that kinda lists the pros of using IE as well as Firefox for you to read. Its a short article but good stuff.

Personally April I dont use IE EVER If I find Firefox cant take the heat I Use Google Chrome which is a zillion times faster on facebook than my Firefox and noticeably faster than even IE.
-
Just like to point out that IE has tabbed browsing too, has for a long time now...
And today the site is working for me on firefox, so yay, but who knows about tomorrow, seems kinda touch and go, although i do try daily to get on here.
-
It's late now, and I need to go to bed, but i'm scared to close the browser and the computer incase the site wont load again.... lol
-
So Im thinking my issues are signal issues. I tried bringing my comp into my bedroom, which is where my wireless modem is, and bam, here I am, on the Elmwood, on IE. So, yeah. Looks like I get to bring elmwoodians to bed with me every night.
giggity giggity.

The site design has not changed at all for a long time and it was tested on IE6 or 7 and whatever firefox was at the time. And it works on Chrome since thats what I use now
-
Smacks Aprils ass "love it whench" :angel4:
-
Well in the last couple days I havent been able to get on here at all.. which is stupid. Even with the comp in my bedroom, sitting right next to the bloody modem with as strong a signal as i can get, it wouldnt work. Im on firefox right now, and had to disable my firewall for the site to load... I dunno. I'm bringing my comp with me to Calgary here in less than two weeks and getting my friend to look at it. He's a computer guy. So yeah, maybe he'll find out whats going on with it.

As long as it is not an ID-10-T error, you will be fine.
-
Nope, no Id-10-T errors here.
