Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:40 pm Nats house

The sun had sunken beneath the citys horizon only ten minutes prior. It was an unusual thing for Melissa as her eyes snapped open and she sat up. There was no grogginess but there was a moment where she had to pause in the darkness and try to recall where she was.

That was right she was staying in the basement of Desdemona along with her tutor Alan. She slid off the couch and let out a curse as in the darkness she banged her shin on the coffee table before she manage to make her way in the pitch black and groped along the wall looking for the dimmer switch.

Her slender fingers brushed the switch and turned it on. A slight groan escaped her lips as she squeezed her eyes shut the light felt like hundreds of tiny daggers that were stabbing at her. Fuck. She sighed trying to blink away the dots of darkness that flooded her vision. It took several moments and her turning the lights down a touch before her eye sight returned to her.

In the basement apartment Melissa suddenly heard an alarm clock go off which made her start followed by a growl of disapproval and the music cut off. The young woman sat  back down on the bed as the haven grew quiet once more and she had time to realize she was incredibly thirsty. She studied the sensation and ran her tongue over her teeth. The third pass her tongue met the rather sharp and delicate points of her fangs. Much like a curious child Melissa contented herself with the new sensation and her new found fangs.

The Alarm again went off again and Melissa heard Des swear as she heard three sharp thuds on the ceiling.  Okay Jesus Im getting up!

Alan awoke to the sound of a radio suddenly coming on blaring raucous music, followed swiftly by a grumble of displeasure and the music being switched off. He smiled to himself during the moments quiet peace as he realized that it must have been Desdemona's alarm going off.
The dawn of a new day made it one step closer to him getting settled into his own home. He sighed as he realized how much there was to do this evening and hoped that things would settle into a pleasant routine quickly. He sat up slowly, stretched and yawned. It wasn't strictly necessary but it was an old habit and a comforting part of his routine.
Looking around he noticed the light was on but dimmed and saw that Mellisa was awake. Made it through the first evening. Thats as good a way to begin as any.
His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of the alarm going off again followed by a thump, thump, thump on the ceiling. He winced at Desdemona's  foul mood, cursing at her mothers prodding to get up and after a moment chuckled at the thought of such a normal scene.
"Good evening ladies, I hope you both slept well", he said, smiling.

Des poked her head out of her room her hair in pig tails Like the dead but I always do. She walked out of her room wearing a pair of boys boxers and a white baby doll shirt that had a 20 sided die on it that read in medieval lettering Thats how I roll. You guys sleep okay?

Melissa nodded. I guess I dont really remember dreaming or anything just dawn came and that was it then suddenly its like uh sunset Im guessing?

Yeah my house is good for keeping out the noise during the day so you can sleep. Plus its nice and dark almost vampire proof. She grinned and stretched. Dibs on the bathroom kiddies.

And with that the blond Malkavian vanished through the door next to her bedroom.

"Enjoy!", Alan laughingly called out as she shut the bathroom door. She was a perky, funny girl. Looking at Mellisa he said, "No, you probably wont dream again for the rest of your days. Dreaming isn't something that most kindred normally do. If you suddenly find yourself dreaming, you should start thinking about who might be trying to tell you something."

He stood up, stretched, and thought for a moment if there was anything in particular that he was motivated to wear today. Deciding not, he reached in and grabbed a pair of khaki pants and a sweater from his bag as said to Mellisa, "I'm sure your hungry, so first order of business is to see if we can get you fed, preferably with you stopping yourself this time", he grinned at her, "After that's taken care of then we can see about getting you some clothes and calling your parents. How does that sound?"

Melissa nodded "I can try sir." was all she said at first. "And Calling my parents would be great. Im sure they would be stoked. To know Im okay. With the explosion and stuff.

She was still for a few moments Thats if they survived the blast. I heard a lot of the city was hit pretty hard The fact was until that moment Melissa Rene hadn't considered the thought. Suddenly she felt minorly ill. Her dainty fangs slid back into place as she considered having to see herself at a funeral.

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:35 pm Angels haven - Chaz

Sundown had come and Chaz found himself awake laying in Angels large bed. He felt no movement as he lay in the darkness but was aware of several things. First he was extremely thirsty the second he could hear the television on in the room next to him.

He slid his hand under the blanket in the cover of darkness between his legs to feel a lack of firmness that was normally there. Closing his eyes he tried to think about something tempting to stir things but it was to no avail. He let out a soft sigh of frustration as he realized nothing was taking place. The only thing that was going on he noted was he was more thirsty thinking about his previous sexual encounters. You awake yet? Chaz called out softly to the darkness as he slid his hand up from under the blanket to rest on his chest.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:41, Alan - Desdemona's Basement

The smile slid of of Alan's face as he realized that Mellisa had been isolated from everything that had gone on and had no clue as to the extent of the damage. He gave Mellisa a somber look and nodded, "The destruction was extensive. Where do they live?"

It dawned on him that this would be a very neat solution to dealing with the difficulties her parents and possibly some of her friends posed and immediately felt guilty that a thought that cruel would even cross his mind.

Melissa sighed "They live on Bay not far from the Yacht club. I'd like to make sure they're okay even if its only a phone call but a visit would be better."

The brunet Setite was quiet for a moment as her fingers toyed with the arm of the couch. "Maybe if its ok could I watch some TV and maybe run out and grab a news paper. I'd like to sorta get back in the loop of everything thats gone on."

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:31 Mike- Tisdale apartments - apartment 502

Mike hadn't been one to be idle. He was awake and had made his way to the bathroom of the one bedroom apartment before the others rose. He went to the sink to splash some water on his face and grimaced at the pain of the cool water against his raw skin.

Looking back at him from the mirror was a twisted visage of exposed muscle and tendon and teeth. Look at it sickened him as he watched the water drop from his face. It had been the first time he had seem himself since the embrace in good lighting and he was devastated. The pain of the change had been brutal enough but starting back at him was not himself but a monster.

"Jesus." he said the word was choked as he looked at the mirror only his blue eye reflected back gave him any indication that what he was looking at was truly himself.

A part of Mike snapped as he looked at himself. At first it was a wave of sorrow and despair at the fact that he was beyond ugly and was in the realm of stomach churning. He had always been vain and he recalled standing in front of his mirror at night as he used to examine the first signs of crows feet around his eyes and thought that he was loosing his looks. How dead wrong had he been. The whole thing was horribly ironic he thought as an insecure laugh burbled from his mouth the laugh was bitter and that was when the anger unfurled from the pit of his belly. He let out a growl as he let the red rage wrap his heat around him. He lashed out with a fist and hit the mirror. There was a loud crack as the mirror cracked the reflective surface now held five separate images of the monster in the mirror.

Mike let out a savage snarl his fists lashed out again and he repeatedly stuck the surface the third blow sent the mirror shattering but he continued to hit it to work his frustrations and despair out on the surface as his bloody fists hit the concrete wall behind leaving bloody pulpy smears.

The bestial roar out of him filled the apartment as he smashed his fists down on the porcelain sink the basin split in two with the second connecting blow and Mike pulled it off the stand and threw the remaining pieace to the tiled floor.

Cold water erupted from the place where the faucets used to be showering the Samedi. Perhaps it was the cool water that washed away the heat of the rage Mike looked at the wreckage of the bathroom and slid down the bathroom door amidst the glass and porcelain and water on the floor and began to uncontrollably sob for the life that was now forever lost to him.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:42, Alan - Desdemona's Basement

Alan pulled up in his mind a detailed map of Hamilton and the destruction that had occurred around the bay and located Bay Street. Her parents lived near the largest of the explosions that had taken place, outside well outside the area of complete devastation and the instant firestorms but smack in the middle of the area that were as close as emergency services could initially reach. It was probably a coin toss as to whether her parents had survived the ordeal if they were home.

He gave Mellisa a sympathetic look, "I hadn't thought about how isolated you must have been from what was happening. I'm sorry I didn't think of it sooner", he handed Mellisa his cell phone, "Here, call your parents now. If you get them, let them know you don't know when you'l be able to see them but you will try to call again soon. While you're doing that I will find a map so I can show you an overview of the results of that night, OK?"

After making sure she knew how to use the phone, he stood and walked over to the bathroom, trying to give her a moment of semi-privacy and rapped lightly on the door. "Desdemona? Do you have a map of Hamilton I could use down here? Mellisa has no idea what happened to Hamilton."

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:31 pm - Tisdale Apartment 502 - Butcher/Doug

Doug's was almost finished with his morning meditation when he heard someone get up and make their way to the bathroom. He thought briefly, Great, another early riser. So much for the privacy of my early evenings, knowing from experience that it wasn't Donna. It had to be either Dana or Mike.

After pushing the thought aside he began wrapping up his morning meditation ritual, since he was about to start it when he heard movement anyway. He vaguely heard water running followed by a choked exclamation. Oh shit.

His eyes snapped open and he glanced to where Mike had been to confirm what his ears told him. Sure enough, Mike was nowhere to be seen. He heard a soft laugh that sounded like it was bordering on hysterical and came to his feet immediately. Come on, kid, don't lose it on me now. He made sure his knife was ready to draw and drew his pistol when he heard Mike growl and the mirror smash. He wondered what the kid must be going through and realized he had just gotten a good look at his face. Jesus, no wonder he's pounding the mirror. Let him have his moment. He's contained in there and hurting no one but some furniture and himself. If I'm really lucky, he will get himself under control but charging in now will almost certainly set him off.

He placed himself beside the door on the opposite of the doorknob and prepared to make sure no one charged in unless Mike left them no choice.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:32 pm - Tisdale Apartment 502 - Dana

Dana had curled herself up on the couch and had been humouring herself with the idea that she might roll over and sleep in. She didn't pay much mind to the noises in the bathroom, even the shattering of the mirror, until the sink basin cracked.
"Oh for fuck's sake." The noise of water spraying assured her that the damage was far beyond cosmetic while she kicked at the sheet she had cocooned herself in and fell from the couch in her attempt to get up. Armed only in the t shirt from the previous night and her boyshort undies, she grabbed her bat from where she'd leant it against the arm of the couch and moved for the bathroom. She came to see Doug standing out front the door as the sound of water rushing from pipes continued to chorus from behind the door as well as inconsolable sobs.. The brujah sighed, ran a hand through her dark locks and put the bat to her shoulder, leaning it casually.
"That's gonna leak in the unit beneath us. And they're gonna call someone, and they're gonna come up here." She said noting the moisture already soaking into the carpet at the crack of the door. "So, we should probably start thinkin up a story, if not turning off the water."

Doug gave an impassive nod and glanced over to check the clock. The kid had broken down about a minute ago, he'd had all the time with the leaking water they could afford. He gave a gentle, firm rap on the bathroom door, "Hey, Mike, do whatever you need to man but turn off the water at the wall valve, would you? We don't need the apartment below bitchin to management about water damage and a leaking ceiling."

He put his gun away and looked at Dana with a wry grin, "Good evening, party-girl, have a nice days death?", hoping to hear the water shut off any second.

Dana shrugged "Hang over free, and restful as always. Did you enjoy your rest in peace?" She inquired over her shoulder, as she put her bat down and searched the near by chair which had become a makeshift wardrobe for a pair of pants. When she succeeded she put on the missing article not in the least concerned what Doug had seen. Living with other people in various states of partying madness for all her unlife she had long ago stopped caring what condition of dress people saw her. Her ear perked for the sound of Mike turning off the water. The last thing she wanted was someone inquiring why the water was running, which would follow with why is the basin in pieces and -My super strength zombie friend punched it cause he doesn't like his face anymore- tended not to fly with the kine. A solid haven was all she wanted, was that too much to ask?

Doug smiled, "No hangovers is one of the perks, ain't it?", he chuckled, "Yeah, my downtime was good, thanks. I'm used to being the first one up and about though, so it's going to take some getting used to since I haven't had a roommate in a very long time and Mike's apparently an early bird as well. Be easier when we get our own haven though. Got spoiled by Donna liking to sleep in."
He glanced back at the door to the bathroom and furrowed his brow, "Hey Mike, you awake in there? Shut off the water valve, man. I'll need to do it in a second if you don't." He wanted to give the kid his space but, shit, this was starting to get annoying. He frowned and listened hard to make sure the kid was still in the room. There wasn't any way he could have gotten out, right?

"You assume much." Donna replied as she walked out of the bedroom. "I just like to lay there and think about whos ass is going to need the most kicking that day." She offered her two clan makes a crooked smirk and nodded to the door. "Sounds like Mikey is havin' a good start."

She could still hear the muffled sobs but they were growing weaker. The Brujah leaders eyes lowered to the carpet outside the bathroom the puddle wasn't too large yet, but she took a towel from the back of the couch and threw it down on the ground to help absorb shit.

She made her way back into the living room and plunked herself down on the couch with a tired sigh as she reached for a cigarette and lit it. "Ah Parenthood. How nostalgic. Feeling like you've bitten off more than you can chew yet Dougie?"

A faraway look crossed his face,  "I pray thee, remember only those fine times. Those radiant, halcyon, brave times." Then he looked at Donna, "Yeah, right. The glorious nostalgia", he chuckled.

"No, not quite yet but give it time. I'm sure it will come to me any second", he said, as he lit his own smoke. He listened for a moment to see if Mike had turned off the water yet.

He glanced back at the door and shrugged, "We all had to figure it out one way or another and he got saddled with some extra baggage. I'll cut him a little slack."

Donna listened as the bathroom noises grew more quiet. The water still ran but Mike's sobs had finally died down. She took an long inhale of her smoke. "Its a harsh reality but hes gotta deal." Donna explained with a shrug. "Some of us were groomed and got to understand the process of being embraced before it happened and some of us haven't. Its admirable that you're making the attempt Dougie. I just hope you have the cash to pay for the repair. He is after all your responsibility and the Prince is kind enough to provide us with quarters to stay in it would be best to make sure that any damages done to the place are covered by us. And by us I mean those that did them."

From within the bathroom the sound of the water finally shut off. But the door to the restroom remained shut. "So you going to be making sure your boy is fed tonight. You still comfortable with taking him out to eat or will you be looking at blood from the butcher?"

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:35 pm - Angel's Haven - Angel

"Regular like clockwork," Angel answered in the darkness.  "Sun sets, we awaken."  He threw the blankets off and turned on the bedside light.  "I can loan you some clothes until you can pick up some of your own.  If you want, grab a shower while I look for something that will fit you.  Towels are in the bathroom closet.  Once you're ready, we'll run out and grab you something to eat."

Angel ran his hands through his hair.  If he was going to get into fighting, he'd need to cut it.  He paused, looking at Chaz for a moment.  "Just try not to be too freaked when you look in the mirror."

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:30 pm Waylon's Haven - Waylon

Waylon ran the brush through his hair.  There were times that he didn't like the length of his hair but tonight it was actually co-operating.  He'd be out the door in under half an hour.  Of course he'd only be heading over to Sara's place to help her dig through the garage and try to salvage as much of her belongings as could be salvaged.  It was a small price to pay in order to feed freely in Dundas, especially since Sara was leaving the city, leaving two young Gangrel to fend for themselves.  Perhaps he'd offer to keep an eye on them as part of the payment.  It might even work in his favour, seeing as how he wanted to paint Xaioqing's eyes.  Fia's on the other hand, he would have preferred to have painted them from before her eye changing frenzy.  She likely wasn't going to be all that willing to sit for him, seeing as how he was more than willing to see her executed.  Then again, he wasn't all that willing to have her sit for him.  Even with Papillion in her corner, Waylon wasn't all that willing to give Fia too many chances to repeat her indiscretion with some Toreador vitae.

"It's not hard work putting in a replacement sink. It's also a handy skill to have if he doesn't already know how to do it. Never a question of not making it right though. Just cause things are different now doesn't mean you aren't responsible for your own actions."

He took another drag on his cigarette and glanced at the bathroom door. "If goes vegetarian tonight depends on how well he can pull himself together. It will be a good idea to pick some up tonight and keep it in the fridge just in case anyway, though."

He glanced at Donna, "We also need to talk about what you mentioned to me at the end of court the other night."

"What is there to say? I think we have a spy in our midst. Its the only logical explanation of how they were able to hit us so hard and fast and not get caught. The knew where many of us bunked down for the day they knew how to slip in and not be seen. If that doesn't spell out rat or mole to you nothing will. The issue is we don't know who it is. But you better believe with my new position as Sheriff that I will be interrogating people." She replied as she she ashed her smoke. "The Problem is it could be just about anyone."

"That begs two questions. Who is it and are they still here? The answer to the second depends mostly on why Hamilton was made a target in the first place."
He took another drag on his smoke, "My guess is they aren't done here though so I'm assuming the spy is still here. At least we can likely count out the childer at this point. They could have tried to slip in another with the newcomers but that would be risky. I'd say we can odds are we're still looking at someone who's been established here and hasn't left yet. You have any guesses?"

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:40 pm - Tisdale Apartment 502 - Donna

Donna was silent for a moment her eyes closed as she leaned against the grey couch. "You forgot the possibility of it being someone that had been here and that has left town or is MIA or been killed by the Sabbat." She hated politics but Dana and Doug would have to do what they could to keep up to speed and Ignacio had grown distant and pulled away be it the fact his Haven was ruined or something else. "The truth is as soon as we had a tell of things going on in the city Iggy was out of sorts. From the accident to constantly getting new cell phones. I don't want to point fingers but I am noticing that he just isn't there and is pushing the boundaries on my authority, but it really was anyone's guess as to who was suspect. Everyone could be a suspect even our own.

Scotty was fighting in Burlington and I wasn't there to see if there were any exchanges but I dont always keep a eye on everyone in my gang we meet maybe twice a month for a few beers and shoot the shit. I dont interrogate my own normally. Then there were others.. like one of the Nos had one of theirs die. Jerome or something was his name and they specialize in laying low and collecting info could be the Sabbat decided to kill the spy just because they were tying up lose ends.

Sara is leaving town like a bat out of hell. You heard her at the meeting she wanted nothing to do with the politics and her explanation for being used as fodder... well prince had it right we all stepped up to bat she wasn't asked to do anything above and beyond the call. So could her dramatic outburst be smoke and mirrors so she could get out of town maybe?

Angel wanted all the new blood despite being Ventrue and them looking down on other clans he did seem to want all the eggs in one basket.

Xiaoqing was held hostage by them and managed to escape but they burned her house down, but she was the only Kindred that had contact with them and managed to live but she said there was only a couple on hand and that she got shit lucky.

Seth and Jallyn the Toreadors they could be a possibility. The are subjects of Lewich's but Seth is a recruiter for art and takes his childe everywhere and they do travel extensively and there aren't any eyebrows raised over this. The both seem to have a way of maneuvering politically but his kids still wet behind the ears so who knows right unless its an act and the girls got game and just wants us to think she less polished than she really is.

Spider the head of the Nos might of leaked info. The nosferatu are tight as a clan and its a known fact that they will trade with other nos. The fact that he didnt have a hint about this or didnt see anything is unusual.

Then again Im the scourge I did my rounds and I didn't see anything I am sure there are those that would wonder if perhaps I am not the spy or a sympathizer and just let them walk in or managed to be in another part of the city conveniently when they rolled in. The fact is guys every one could be a suspect its hard to rule anyone out really other than the Prince his apprentices Babadora and Athial, but Athial was missing for several days before she returned to Hamilton from Burlington and she was burned pretty bad she and Scott had gone out to do their part. So maybe I cant rule her out.  Mark couldn't have and I've known Helen long enough that I know despite her being a twat that she would never join the Sabbat. The Malks? Well its hard to tell about them I don't know em well enough and out of most of the clans they are probably just as ignored as the Gangrels So theres even the potential there. Despite Fia's fuck up it be extremely stupid of her to of eaten someone if she was a spy too risky so I count her out as well."

Donna paused to flick her smoke her lips tightened as she opened her eyes. "Its a lot to take in. I think maybe a lighter topic might be in order. You were thinking of a radio thing. I know a guy that teaches media up at Mohawk. I could get you in there so you could learn how to use the gear and you could broadcast during the graveyard shift if you were interested and didn't mind owing me a small favor."

Sara was in the drive way sliding a tool box into the bed of her pick up truck. She nodded to him as Waylon parked his Mazda and came up to her. "We do through whats left of the garage. Theres some tools and what not that I still need to pack but it wont take long aside from that I'll need you to pass off a set of keys to someone this week and mail me a money order. The guys buying a truck I finished and have in storage and will be dropping off a money order. Other than that you think I could have you keep an eye on Fia and Xiao for me. Despite leaving I am going to worry about them."

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:36 pm – Angel’s Haven - Angel

BP: 10/11  HP: 7/7 WP:4/4 SC:3 HUM 6

Angel didn't say anything.  Chaz didn't seem to be too narcissistic but you could never tell.  He might react to his lack of reflection in any number of ways.  Mike, hideous though he was, at least still had a reflection.  He'd adapt, the way burn victims or accident victims adapted.  Not ever being able to see your face again?  Now that was something to freak out about.

Idly, he flipped through the daytimer that he kept at the side of his bed.  May two-four is on a Monday.  Long weekend.  Good time to re-open the Unyon.  I'll have to give Iggy a call and invite him, seeing as how I owe him a beer.  Hell, I'll invite the whole damned Clan.  It will help Chaz get to know who is who and if he's going to be working in the Scourge squad with me, he'll need to know them.

He ran his hands through his hair once more.  Need to pick up some clippers.  I'll grab them when I take Chaz out for his evening meal.  He made it a few days without any help form anyone, so I'll just stand back and see how he does on his own.  Jeans and a t-shirt should do it.  And some socks.  He's on his own for underwear.  That should cover it for now.

Angel had grown used to the sight of Grigor sitting in a chair reading the newspaper.  The German Ventrue was an early riser and was showered and dressed long before anyone else in the apartment had stirred, other than Dee, of course.  This time his eyes were on the bathroom door, rather than the newspaper.

"You find it troubling that I have taken in a Lasombra?" Angel asked.

Grigor shrugged.  "The Keepers have always been our rivals for power, to the point of forming the Sabbat.   I would not put it past them to slip a silver tongued devil into their cannon fodder in the hopes that some one would accept him as one of their own.  He surrenders, giving himself up to us, hoping that he will be able to convince us that he is just like the others, a victim.  Perhaps he passed the Tremere's test of the blood in some way.  Perhaps he used some treachery.  Your Prince is liberal with his mercy and this is why you were attacked."  Grigor shrugged again.  "You fill find out soon enough, Angel.  One way or the other, you will find out."

"I'm surprised you don't have one of them send you the money order,"  Waylon said.  "Unless you don't want them to know where you are."  Despite the Toreador reputation for loathing hard work and detesting getting dirty, Waylon was already carrying smoke damaged boxes out into the open for inspection.  "As far as keeping an eye on them, it's a small price to pay to be able to dine locally."  He grinned.  "Besides, it will give me a chance to paint Xiaoqing's eyes.  I'll just have to settle for that, seeing as how a certain person doesn't want to sit still long enough for me to get a good look at her eyes and, to coin a phrase, Fia and I aren't exactly seeing eye to eye.  It is a favour owed, however and I will do what I can to keep them both out of trouble and free from any undue obligations."

Waylon gave the Gangrel elder a smile, his hazel green eyes twinkling with mischief.  "Did you have anything that's mostly finished?  With a little help from a few well meaning friends, I'm sure I could get it done in something resembling a decent fashion.  I'd be willing to buy one from you, if the price and the car or truck is right."  He leaned closer.  "Don't let anyone know but the art fag thing is starting to get a little tired and it's a bitch trying to move anything of any size in a Miata."

I kind of 'forgot' to post the rest of Fia's night in the last chapter.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 3:30am-Dawn - Clan Gangrel - Hamilton Golf and Country Club Club Parking lot - Fia

Health= 5/7 BP=6/12, WP=5/5 HUM=7/7 SC=3/3

After Sarah and Chaz left, Fia didn’t really see a point to sticking around. She said her thank-yous and good-byes and hit the road. The roads were clear but the time left to her thoughts was agony. She avoided looking at the clock and made her way up the mountain and out to the boonies. Her old farm house streaked into view and Fia heaved a sigh.

The chickens she bred were all tucked away in their roost and the night air was chilly and quiet. Up the steps and into the main house she climbed.

Elizabeth, the nice older lady she rented the back half of the house to was probably asleep. She looked after the chickens during the day and lived in the modern add-on in the back. Fia went straight to the bathroom, peeling off her torn and bloody clothing, and ran the bath. After leaving a big tray of food for Pickle and charging her phone, she wrapped her mangled hand in an old towel and waited. The light on her answering machine was blinking but she chose to ignore it for the time being. When the tub was filled she made her way to the door in the kitchen that attached the old to the new and unlocked the door with the key that was kept in top of the door frame.

She opened the door and made her way inside to find Elizabeth sleeping peacefully in her bed. Not wanting to cause any more harm, she gingerly reached for her arm. Pulling the pulsing wrist to her mouth, she pierced the skin, careful not to spill a drop. Only taking what she could safely from the woman, Fia replaced the arm and went back to her bath.

When she was clean and her hand bandaged, she trudged to the big walk-in closet in the master bedroom. After turning out the light, she closed the closet door behind her and crawled under her big feather duvet. She didn't really need it, it only comforted her to be covered, even in the pitch-black of her bedroom closet. With the thought of Sarah leaving tonight, it felt less safe.

She took a moment in the darkness to drown in her own thoughts. When did this all turn awry? She wondered as whole scenes were played back for her in her mind's eye.

Her childhood was fine, teens average. Woodstock up to a point. Her first night as a vampire was blurry, but her eidetic memory was already refined so the parts she did remember were crystal clear. Trying to survive back west, when her family was so near. Her first night in Hamilton. Meeting Antigen. Meeting what was to be her new family.

Sarah keeping her close to the clan so she wouldn't get mixed in with the politics. "You're not ready..." Frown.

As the old ones left and the new ones came,

Running the Trail with Lobo. "Betcha can't outrun that deer..." Grin.

Amateur night with Xiao. "It doesn't really matter if you can't dance..." Bigger grin.

Being called to court. The Introduction and gift (courtesy of amateur night). Working and playing. Peaceful times, relatively, for a while. Then the more recent events. The attacks by the Sabbat. Small, trivial jabs by a desperate crew. The meeting. Team Beta. The Henderson. Chaz. The... Diablory... Then she wasn't home for a bit. The guilt, when she felt fantastic, full of another vampire's blood. Guilt now for feeling stronger than before. The second night. Team Omega. The Trail. The ambush. Xiao and Jeremy, then Babadora. The long drive back. The Whitehern. The little doll in her arms... And today with yet another meeting. The Trial. Jallyn’s frenzy and the chaos. And now the present.

As much as she wanted to, she couldn't repress a thing. It was there, ingrained in her head. The only time she didn't have any recollection was when she frenzied. She thought the movie in her head was better with those scenes cut out...

Dawn.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 8:40pm - Clan Gangrel - Fia's Haven – Fia

Health= 6/7 BP=7/12, WP=5/5 HUM=7/7 SC=3/3

Fia awoke with a start. Oh yeah… It’s over. Fuck my life, she thought as she flopped back onto the cool softness. She still wasn't in good shape after the previous night, but she had scrubbed the blood off in the tub and bandaged her hand well afterwards. She didn't want to risk losing anymore blood or getting any more damage before she could fill up. With Mel now dead she needed someone else to feed from regularly.

Throwing off the blankets, she dragged herself out of her cave and prepared for the night. When dressed, the blinking light on the machine grabbed her attention.

"Damn," she said to no one.

She braced herself and pushed the button.

(Took two points from Elizabeth, healed one point)

Sara went though the odds and ends pointing to what was being kept. "I do have a restored 1972 Chevy Elcamino but its not totally done. I didn't get around to the cosmetics It still needs tires and a paint job. I'd part with it for elven grand.

Waylon asked for nine and eventually settled on ten. Once the garage was cleared out and the small pittance of Saras belongings packed onto her pick up truck she opened the glove box to her truck and pulled out the registration paper for the El Camino and pulled a key off her keychain. Send me the money order by the end of the month to the same postal box I gave you for buddy. You can pick the car up on highway 6 near Clapison Veterinary services tell Judd you're there to pick it up and he can let you into the garage. Hes a big guy but don't let that intimidate you hes a sweet man he also helps me with my car shows. If you need tires and stuff maybe have it towed to a garage in the city and they can get you your tires as well as ask who can paint her for you."

"By the vet,"  Waylon echoed.  The truck was certainly more bad ass than his Miata and would hopefully earn less derision from the Brujah.  When had their opinion of him become so important?  "Do you want me to keep the address to myself or can I pass it on to your girls?  And are you going to let them know that you've asked me to keep an eye on them or am I supposed to fumble my way through?"

The responsibility wasn't exactly something he was looking forward to but he had to admit that there was a part of him that was the slightest bit eager to do it.  He'd already broken out of one mold, proving that Toreador made capable warriors.  Perhaps he was destined to break out of all the stereotypes his Clan was saddled with.  Perhaps he was intended to prove the Toreador equally adept at interacting with all the other clans.  He'd dubbed the Brujah 'rough'.  What would he call the Gangrel?  Who did they have left to represent them?  Xiaoqing, an Asian exotic dancer who had faced unknown brutality at the hands of the Sabbat and Fia, an animal control officer with one strike against her.  They hadn't much hope.

Forlorn Hope....

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 8:40pm - Clan Gangrel - Fia's Haven

The answer machine held 8 messages 4 of them from Chuck her boss at the SPCA and 4 from Brenda who was the night shift operator receptionist. Both had been calling in to see where she was.

Fia's Cell phone also had 3 messages on it from Chuck his voice sounded more concerned as she realized that the most recent of messages had been from last night but the Gangrel had left her cell phone shut off once the Kindred meeting had started and hadnt bothered to turn it back on again.

Her boss seemed tired each message he had became more emotional until you could hear the genuine worry in his tone about her welfare. The last one was short his tone sounding as if he had given up hope. 'Fia if you get this I hope you are alright. With the explosion were not sure if you were down there or not. You haven't returned any calls in well over a week. You've also missed 5 shifts. I'm sorry if you don't call me by Monday I'm going to have to let you go. And we will be sending someone over to your place to pick up the company vehicle. Call me and let me know whats going on.'

What the hell am I going to tell him?! Fia's mind raced so fast she had to hold her face steady. "I'll call him right now."

She dialled the number for her boss and waited for him to pick up. The voice on the other line was drained.

"Chuck? It's Fia."

"Where the hell have you been?" he asked. "We've been trying to get a hold of you for over a week now."

"I'm so sorry for not calling you," She began, "I know I should have called but," Fia's voice cracked as she struggled to keep a hold over her emotions, "I lost some people in that explosion. Good people. It's all too much."

"Be that as it may, you should have called. You weren't hurt were you?"

"Just some scrapes and scratches from debris. They're pretty much gone now."

"We're really busy right now. We're getting flooded with calls for clean-up and rescue. If you really want to keep this job you're going to have to let me know, but you are getting written up for this."

Fia hung her head. She didn't want to do this...

"I'm sorry, Chuck. I don't think this is the path for me. I'll drop the van off tonight."

"I'm sorry it's come to this, Fia. Good bye."

"Bye, Chuck."

Fia hung up the phone and stared at it for a while. Sarah might be in town. It's still early... Flipping open her phone, she pressed the number 1 on her speed dial.

Andy was in heaven. Chin deep in a jacuzzi bath, massaging all her 'troubles' away. She had spent enough time in there for her toes to prune. The decor in this bathroom was tastefully plush, as was decor in the rest of Pappy's dream house. It truly was delightful.

Now it's cold. Oh, well. It was nice while it lasted. She climbed out, towelled herself off, and dressed at a leisurely pace.

"Now to find ze Pappy!" She exclaimed as she went.

Doug nodded, "No, I covered it being someone who left or was killed but like I said, it depends on if they achieved their goal here. If they did, they could have left but if not, I'd expect them to be here still. They could have been killed but the attack showed they were smart and it would be a huge waste to kill someone that good unless they had no choice. More likely they'd go MIA although given that we don't tend to leave corpses makes faking death much easier. Even if they got what they were after, I have a feeling they would have acted on it by now in a big way, or worse, left the spy in place so we could be the new test subject to see how they could use what they came here to get."

He exhaled a cloud of smoke, "I got no proof at all but my gut tells me they probably didn't get what they came for. I'm not entirely stupid and while I did spend some of my mortal time was as black-ops, I'm not a spook. One thing I did learn was to rely on my gut when it came to keeping my humble, precious self alive though. I don't think they're through here."

"As for owing you a favor, I figure I'm gonna owe you more than a small one before my time here is done. I'd love to get a handle on how the legit world does commercial radio. I'd also appreciate it if you could put me in touch with people who could supply me with weed to sell too. I was also thinking of looking into doing a little security consulting for local nightlife as well. I hate to put all my eggs in one basket. While I'm thinking about it, I need to talk to Waylon and see about coordinating with him about the classes. It was a good suggestion. Also need to find someplace around here we can blow off a few rounds so everyone is at least passing familiar with how to handle a firearm."

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:39 pm Angels Haven - Wendy

"Apparently you do, your Brother Gino and his wife Linda had two children Michael and Flavia. I had Child services visit me today at approximately 1:30 this afternoon it seems they've been tracking down survivors and next of kin because your niece and nephew are still alive." Wendy replied gently.

Angel stood still for a full ten seconds before he replied. "Excuse me?"

"Your niece and Nephew need a place to stay or they are going to a Foster Home. Mrs Burke the case worker left me her card and a case file we had lunch together and she said to have you contact her. They were visiting friends up on the mountain brow and sleeping over there when the explosion happened.  I believe she said it was the Watson's and are still with them but they can't stay there forever." Wendy explained.

"They can't stay here." Angel said. "I'm going to have to find a place because they sure as hell aren't going to let two kids live under a bar. And yes technically the apartment is under the studio. They will need their own rooms...Something near a school as well.  Shit! Get Mark on the phone I'm going to need to talk to him."

"Yes sir." Wendy replied with a curt nod. "What time would you like Lucy to come over she is available until 11. If not I can take care of your needs this evening."

"Ten is fine. I will need to introduce Chaz to both of you. What time did this Burke want to talk to me?"

Wendy sighed "Office hours are from 9am until 5pm. Which are obviously going to be an issue for you."

"Set an appointment for 9am please." Angel said, wondering if a razor blade in his shoe would provide enough pain to keep him functional and awake during the day. "Make it for the day after tomorrow. Maybe Mark or Antigen will have some trick for staying awake."

Dee looked up "That means I need to be scarce boss. Last thing they want to see is you keeping street kids on your couch. I'll take off for the day."

Wendy nodded "Ill try and set up an appointment for that time however this is child services they make the appointments but I'll tell them you care only available for that time."

Grigor spoke up "Truthfully they would be better off in a Foster home."

Angel looked at the German vampire. "Fuck you. You are kindred these are Kin. Family. You are German I wouldn't expect you to understand blood is thicker than water. These are flesh of my flesh. I CAN'T turn them over to someone else. I don't care what Family services says I'm giving these kids a home. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror if I didn't"

From inside the bathroom an exclamation of surprise came from within  "I can't see myself. Where the hell is my reflection?"

Saturday, May 9th, 1999 - 8:30 - 1100pm -the Jammorik's -
Iggy BP 12 (12)  W 5 (5) HtK 7 (7) H 5/5 SC 2/2

Iggy's morning had run smoothly the and knock on the door was exactly as timed.  He listened as Jennifer answered the door and greeted their guest.  By the accent Iggy recognized the voice as Baahir.  Iggy's Indian contacts in the city had located Baahir Bandu for him. And it was worth every penny to bring him here from Bengal.

Iggy moved upstairs intercepting Jennifer as she escorted their Bengali guest to the kitchen.  Baahir did not look like much.  Fifity plus in age, thin and stooped - the image of holy man he was - but his legs showing below his dhorti revealed hidden strength and power.  He was a great priest of Kalika - goddess of Time and Change.  Iggy approached with a statue of Eos in his hands.

"Baahir welcome to my home.  You know why I asked you here.  Train me and my people.  Teach us the way of Kalika." The Jamoriks, Tom , Jay, spike even Dhinga gathered around the Budjah as he spoke.  "In return I will devout myself and my people to Kalika's altar."

Baahir nodded at the Brujah.

Iggy let the statue of Eos fall and smash to the floor.  From behind him a statue of Kalika was past to him.  Black gold formed her ebony skin, her necklace of skulls crystal, her skirt of human parts silver.  He held it out to Baahir.  With blinding speed a knife cut through Iggy's hand, his blood seeped out covering the idol.

"We are of Kali now.  Teach us vengeance and protection.  Show us the Thuggee path."

"Then let us get started, Kalika does not appreciate softness or failure." Iggy led them and the little man into the basement.  For the next few hours the door was not answered nor was the phone picked up.  From the basement came the sounds of combat, mediation and instruction until Baahir left shortly before 11.

"Practice tonight, I will expect better tomorrow."

Iggy nodded - it was becoming a good night.  He was proud of his group. All had fought well.  Spike and Dhinga too were worked by the guru. Tom and Dhinga were dealing with any wounds now. But all had shone.

"Jay, did you stock up on those cell phones like I asked.", Iggy knew he had and it had proved wise.  Eternity, Iggy could manage, cell phones were his curse.  So the Brujah was not surprised that when all was over - his cell phone was shards - again - on the floor of the basement.  Not wanting to explain it to Donna - he just texted her the new number - she knows him and phones - she'll understand.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 8 - 10 pm - Dundurn Castle
MacNab BP 13 (13)  W 4 (4) HtK 7 (7) H 6/6 SC 3/3

MaNab rose. First he toured the house with greeting his people and getting updated about the day.  Retiring to the library he began to review his businesses.  He Called Frank in.  Frank, I have committed us to help with the harbour rebuild.  Tomorrow three things need to be done.  Purchase land to build two major warehouses.  Purchase with shoreline on the bay with mooring rights.  But out a request for tenders for construction crews - go out of the city if you have too to find them.  Prepare those before you go.  Amanda will come looking for them"

Satisfied that that was begun he sat writing at his desk.

My Dearest Antigen,

I must tell you what a pleasure it was to once more attend one of your soirees.  It will be such so much more elegant with out the nastiness of finishing up and attempting to put aside these horrors you and yours suffered.  May the future be brighter.

With regard to ensuring such brightness for Hamilton, I have instructed my Stewart Frank Connaught to pursue purchases pertinent to my aid in rebuilding Hamilton's industry as we discussed last night.  Import and Export as you know will bring business back.  Still I would be available to aid with an manufacturing or entertainment enterprise as well.  Never hurts to branch out.

With my Humble Esteem
Sir Alan MacNab

Ringing for Amanda.  It had taken time to get use to a female butler but she was, as he remembered, a true match for Antigen's Chantel.  He reminisced as he prepared the note.  Antigen and the old days.  And now Hamilton is raising Sabbat tainted Kindred. None better show up on his lands - then the villainous cur can be taken care off his way - the old way - chained to a cliff at dawn.  MacNab was shaking his head at the thought as Amanda entered.

"Have this letter delivered to Antigen, have  Frank attach a copy of his tender requests.  Oh and Amanda I would like that there for 11PM."

Amanda took the letter and left.  MacNab got up to tour his estate as was his custom at this time - just to make sure all is as it should be.

BP: 10/11  HP: 7/7 WP:4/4 SC:3 HUM 6

"I don't know how it works," Angel admitted.  "Hell, I don't know how the whole Kindred thing works, for that matter.  Obviously there is some answer but I doubt either of us has the metaphysical knowledge to understand it.  Call it magic, call it a curse.  Just realize that you're going to have to learn to avoid polished surfaces.  Most Kindred will be able to peg you as a Lasombra right away, if they know what to look for.  We'll just have to make sure everybody realizes that you're effectively Ventrue instead of a true Lasombra.  Now hurry up in there.  We're looking at a long night as it is and I need to introduce you before I have a shower."

Truthfully Angel only wanted a shower.  He didn't need one.  Kindred didn't sweat and he hadn't gotten dirty the night before.  It was a comfort, something that made him feel more human.  It was one of the few pleasures he could still experience.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 8:42 pm - Tisdale Apartment 502 -Dana

Dana nodded and picked up her jacket from where it was slung in the chaos of her possessions.
"Okay big daddy D, you got a bike or a car or are we takin' my truck?" Dana inquired as she began to thread her arms through the sleeves. She hoped that he had a bike because she wanted to get back on hers, and she also hated driving the beater. Her fingers twitched not so much for the nicotine but for the action of smoking, though her body may no longer crave the chemicals it was still a habit.
"Let's get this show on the road."

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 9:32pm - Papillon's Haven - Papillion

The vampire put a hand to her cheek in well rehearsed modesty. "A doll? Of moi? You really think so? I would be all too honoured to sit for you!" The ballerina smiled but then paused. "Though I must admit I haven't seen much of your work ma cheri besides your offering. Do you have a portfolio or any of your other dolls here?" It seemed only fitting to have a doll maker in Papillion's Barbie dream house of an abode.

He grinned, "I haven't owned anything but a bike in years. We'll take that if you don't mind getting some wind in your face."

"We'll swing by and grab the blood and drop it off back here before we head out for the evening. Reminds me, I also need to double-check with you that I have Waylons phone number programmed in right before we go. I can call him while we wait for the blood."

As he spoke he drug on a pair of jeans and a tank top. Force of habit made him grab his colors from where he had hung them over a chair before he realized he couldn't wear them any more. He dropped them back and on the chair and grabbed another old but plain leather vest from his bike luggage.

"You want us to pick up anything before we head back?"

"Hey, it's Fia," she started, "Are you still in town?"

"Yeah."

"Can you do me a favour? A ride home from the shelter. I need to drop off the van."

"Sure. Why are you dropping it off?"

"I kind of quit. I don't really need the money anyway. I do need wheels now, though."

"Hang on. I'll make arrangements and call you back."

"Uh, sure. Okay." Fia closed her phone and looked at the clock. With her not having to work, the night seemed a little longer. A little daunting even.

"Of course!" Andy exclaimed as she bounded back up the stairs only to return with a thick binder and a shoe box. She placed the binder on the coffee table.

"Each one is custom," she grinned, opening the box. It held a blank base, no paint or hair. "I sculpt the faces. I may need to warn you though. I mostly do nudes." she giggled.

Donna recited the number to Doug for Waylons phone and assured him that she was good as well as the fact that Mike had eaten well last night so there was no rush to bring the blood back immediately. Go out and explore and you two have some down time its likely going to be the last you see for a while she had informed the two. With that she told Doug she would get to work on making some calls to see what she could do for his cash issues as well as his aspirations on playing DJ and she waved good bye to both of the younger Kindred as they left the apartment to explore their new city without a warden.

Sunday, May 9th 1999  9:46 pm Leaving Sara's Place - Waylon

BP: 12/13  HP: 7/7 WP:4/4 SC:3 HUM 6

"I can do that,"  Waylon said.  He'd learned long ago the trick of sounding enthusiastic in situations where he wasn't.  "It shouldn't take me much longer than half an hour to get there.  Hopefully she won't have too much stuff with her."

He wasn't too keen on playing taxi for the Diablerist but if that was what it took to keep the Gangrel leader happy, then that was what he would do.  Perhaps he could learn to point her, like some kind of weapon.

Judge not, lest ye be judged and found wanting.  The Brujah judged you by what they saw, not by what they heard others say they saw....

Or maybe he would learn to see whatever it was that Papillion saw in her.  In fact, the tiny dancer might even be able to help him do so.  He pulled out his phone and dialed Papillion's number.

"Bon soir, ma petite," he began.  "Combien vous m'aimeriez si j'ai apport votre Fia bien-aim pour une visite rapide? Tous pourrions sortir pour une bouch rapide pour manger plus tard ?"

TRANSLATION: Good evening, my little one. How much would you love me if I brought your beloved Fia over for a quick visit?  We could all go out for a quick bite to eat later?

Doug thanked Donna for making the calls, watching after Mike for him, let her know they'd be back in a few hours and finally called through the door to Mike that he would be back later.

He checked his weapons out of habit as he headed towards the door and said with a grin Dana, "Alright girl, lets go have a little fun. First time I've been out on my own since I got into town and maybe the last night for a while that I get the chance. First stop we'll get the blood and smokes. I'll call Waylon about seeing what we can do about setting up some training and then we'll have a couple of hours to go play", as he opened the door he asked, "Anything in particular that you wanna do?"

Saturday, May 9th, 1999 - 8:30 - 10:00pm -Iggy's Studio -
Iggy BP 12 (12)  W 5 (5) HtK 7 (7) H 5/5 SC 2/2

"What the Fuck!" Iggy awoke with a start filling the studio with the noise of someone sleeping the sleep of the dead suddenly jerking awake.  Thuggee, Kali What?  Everyone at the Jammoriks - but they were removed to the safe zone.  Fucking Dreams!  But what could it mean.  Iggy stumbled about the studio floor looking far more like a human then Kindred ever do.  Finally he careened into the small fridge.  Reaching in Iggy pulled out a silver and gem encrusted glass carafe.  Tossing the red liquid back the confusion of his abrupt awakening began to abate.

A quick whistle brought Steel to Iggy's side.  The kindred ruffled the top of Steel's head as he considered the meanings of his dream.  Training my family to aggressively protect - something I had already decided to do.  But Kali, true she was the deity that best reflects my new world view.  What was the name - Baahir Bandu of Bengal.  Outloud to no one "That sure sounds like a dream name - where the fuck else do you ever see alliteration these days?" So real though.  Dhinga would you support such radicalness?  You were so alive in the dream.

Iggy sat and continued to stroke Steel's head.  His hammers untouched, his forge unlit.  His mind was still transfixed by the dream.  An hour later the Brujah had decided what he would do.  Take care of immediate business.  A little night digging and then maybe a few inquiring calls to friends in India.

Iggy picked up his cell hitting text  he started to type. Might as well practice this texting stuff. "Donna, when do we meet to set up scourge areas and teams (?) Also as you know we all have to move - was thinking of taking up residence at the old City View Hotel at the Main/Queenston traffic circle.  It closed in '97 and has been sitting empty.  You interceded with Antigen when I purchased the beach street properties.  Would like to get on this ASAP.  Let me know what my next step should be.  Iggy"

Sending the note of to Donna's cell, he started a second message.  "Angel Bro how are things.  Wow what a weekend.  Got us all frazzled.  Sorry about the Rental and your jaw.  Just good to know that neither you or I are the traitor, eh.  So how did the club fare.  Me and mine are moving.  Let ya know when I am settled.  Head you talking at the golf course about starting up some business ventures.  Looking for a partner in a venture or two?  Got any ideas for a non-business savvy Brujah that is looking to diversify his business portfolio.  Know we are all busy these days but lets plan a night to hammer down a business plan.  With your info - I am certain I could make a REAL killing.   Here's to saving Hamilton, eh Bro.  Pro Bono for a friend right - it is all for a good cause - our home.  TTFN Iggy" That's right no traitors here, eh Angel.

After writing the name Baahir Bandu of Bengal down, Iggy headed to a place he had not been often since the explosion.  But the dream drove him to look once again.  Heading to the burnt shell of his former home, Iggy was overcome by the regret - it had been a happier time.  And if the dream is a true portent  then somewhere in this rubble was his box and in it Dhinga's medallion. Iggy began to dig.  By 10 PM Iggy was still digging.  He was now covered in soot and had begun to uncover things he recognized as occupying his office.  It would be at this level that he would find the box if it was to be found at all.  "Dhinga if you can hear me, if you are still here, guide my hand, reveal your whereabouts to me" Iggy quietly prayed as he dug.

Sunday, May 9th 1999  8:45 - 10:00 pm – Angel’s Travels - Angel

BP: 10/11  HP: 7/7 WP:4/4 SC:3 HUM 6

The night didn't progress too badly.  Chaz seemed more than capable of feeding himself but Angel still kept an eye on him until the deed was done and they were away.  It was a short run up to Chaz's dorm to gather some clothes and leave his room mate a quick note before they were once again on the move.

A fortuitous stop at a Big Bear variety garnered Angel more than the cheap hair clippers and a copy of Autotrader and House Trader; it allowed him to bump into the young massage therapist he'd originally assumed was a hooker.  This time she actually was on the street turning tricks and it had been his turn to give her a business card.  He'd offered her a job as an on staff massage therapist for his musician, if she wanted an alternative to selling herself.

He'd almost returned to the Unyon when he got Iggy's text.

Iggy.  Good to hear from you.  Going to be opening the Unyon up again for the May 24.  Bring Donna and the crew.  First round is on me.  Maybe we can get our heads together before then and figure out a way of digging out the rat.  I have a few ideas.  Maybe they'll match yours.  Busy with the new kid tonight but give me a call when you get a chance.

After a few minutes of fidgeting, Fia's cell rang. Sarah was too busy to come herself and Fia wouldn't have expected her to anyway, and she told her as much. Her ride was arranged. She let Sarah know how much she appreciated it, especially at the last minute. They disconnected and Fia cleaned her things out of the van. She hadn't bothered to replace her 'Lil Slugger that she'd lost so long ago. All she had stashed in there were stakes, all of which she made sure to collect.

When she had finished she took the van back to the shelter. She didn't stay long. Just enough to give back the keys and empty her locker. She then went to wait out front for her ride. Funny, Sarah never mentioned who she was sending.

The little Miata pulled into into the lot a full five minutes before Waylon had expected to arrive, which was an accomplishment, considering he'd missed the turn twice.  Fia wasn't hard to spot, standing like some forlorn waif who'd just been cast out.  He pulled up beside her and rolled down the window.

"Your chariot awaits," he said.  "Sara asked me to pick you up.  I'm supposed to make sure that you and Xiaoqing are taken care of over the next little while.  Part of the price of eating close to home.  Hang on and give me a second to open the trunk so you can stash your stuff.  It's either that or hold it all in your lap.  This thing doesn't have a back seat, more's the pity."

Dana remarked as they made their way to the elevator, tapping the button with her dock martin.

Iggy wasn't sure where Dhinga had come from but when he turned around, the old Indian was standing looking at him and shaking his head. "There is so much anger in you," he said. "You command your closest allies as if they were your servants, not your friends. You must set aside your anger, learn to see it for what it is. Only then will you be able to learn Alecto's Scourge as I have bidden you. You must understand your anger, not let it rule you. My only constraints this evening are calling Waylon so that I can meet him tonight, getting some stoggies and fags and grabbing a bite, in that order. All of which shouldnt take more than 45 minutes."

Dana said lighting up the main lobby button. Leaning against the back wall of the elevator she spoke again. "Well, I think that if the rat is ever sniffed out there's not gonna be a piece left for us newbies to beat. Sunday May 9th 1999 - 10:30pm - Downtown Hamilton

The tall broad shouldered blond sat on the bench in Gore park eating a hot dog from one of the vendors. "Least they taste alright." he replied as he flushed down a gulp with a hot coffee.

"See anything yet Faust?" his dark curly haired companion asked.

"Nothing yet. But if theres going to be activity its likely where theres the most amount of people."

"All this damn waiting... My ass is getting sore."

Dolph laughed it was rich and warm his bright blue eyes sparkled "Think of it as one of your former stake outs it might make things feel better."

Maria sighed " weve been out here since seven and you havent spoted anything. You figure you'd see something out of the ordinary by now. Even another paranormal or one of those blood dolls..."

"Patience Celes. It could just be that the fangs dont keep alot of pets. In time we will come across something and shifters usually prefer the country side. Its our first night out."

"Sucks that the boys get to rest and kick back at the hotel."

"Hey tomorrow night I get Ray or Marcus least you guys get to rotate."

"Didn't you say you had family our around here? Couldn't you call them up and ask for a lending hand?" She asked.

Dolph  grimaced. "Its complicated. I do have a brother that lives out in this neck of the woods but lets just surmise that the family isn't thrilled with my career choice. Normally we take care of matters in family. Branching out to work with non mages is sort of frowned on. If I called my bro up it wouldn't be the warmest of welcomes. Not that we would beat the shit out of each other but its likely best to just not touch base with him on his turf unless I absolutely need to. Give it a few days and lets see what happens alright."

"Not too many of your kind round here?"

"Not really my entire family used to live out in Ancaster till my father moved back to Germany once we were all done school. My little bro stayed behind he likes Canada. Karl was more than happy to go back to Germany. I do have an older brother that lives in Toronto but again were not out that way so he likely wouldn't know the up and up with whats happening here. Each city has its own community of para normals. I know there used to be a mage that live out in Burlington but my father wasn't a fan of him. Not sure why but I don't really wish to poke around there if I don't have to. Mages can be just as territorial as werewolves and vampires can be." He replied thoughtfully as he polished off the rest of his dog.

Maria nodded as she sipped her coffee. "I just wish I could be of more use. We rely on you too much sometimes."

"Ah you guys did fine before you met me. It just took you longer to find what you were looking for. The cause is good and thats why Im here. Someone needs to police things. Its just a bitch to get you guys to not shoot when I need to ask questions. Just cause they're different doesn't mean they're all up to no good. We just need to learn what happened her. Its not normal for them to be so obvious about things... Now could you be a doll I'm still hungry take a jaunt across the street and score me a boston cream if you dont mind" Dolph replied as he gave her a wink.

Sunday May 9th, 1999 10:30 - 10:40 p.m.  - -  Xiaoqing's Haven  - -

Robert stood in the doorway to Xiao's house. The tall toned brunet leaned against the wall after he pulled out a pocket book and a pencil from  the rear pocket of his snug fitting jeans.  He looked up at her, his brown eyes flicked from the page where he made his notes and then to her. "I should be able to repair most of the damage to your place. Cover cost of materials and I'll charge you a lump sum of two grand to do the rest. After all a boys gotta eat."

Xiao smiled into Roberts eyes.  "You have a deal love.  Two grand is less then I would have expected to be charged to fix this place.  At least most of the damage was limited to the upper floors.  My basement safe room took almost no damage at all."  There was a certain note in her voice that he knew from past experiences, a note that said she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Its half price actually. Now it's going to be a case of me having to fix what needs to be repaired then I'll focus on re-drywalling your place. I don't paint so you will have to do that in your own time. I could get to work on the 13th since that's when my contract is done with the Robin's home. Cut me a cheque and I can get to work ASAP after that doll. But its getting late for me. I have to be on the work site for 7am. Contracts in Oakville so its a bit of a drive. Its going to be another one of those up and out of bed for 5am days darlin' " He softly replied as he closed his eyes and leaned his brow against her cool forehead.

"Thanks for coming over on such short notice love."

"Its not a problem Xiao.  And you wonder why I think vampires should be fucking torn apart and shat out," he said with a soft growl.  "So destructive they don't care about anything but themselves.  Present company excluded of course," he added as he gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Mmmmmm.  I wish we could spend the night together but if you have to be up that early you had better be getting home and to bed.  The last thing the Robin's need is to have a grumpy wolf stomping around their home all day."  Xiao tilted her head back and closed her eyes, waiting for the warmth of his lips against hers.

He nodded "And sometimes I think it would be nice if you didn't have this severe allergy to sunlight.  I'd take you up north camping to my cottage and out for a day on the lake.  Naked tanning swimming and a whole lot of shagging."  He laughed softly flashing teeth and gave a lazy shrug.  "That's the lot were dealt with right.  We will deal.  Now come give your daddy some sugar before he leaves.  You crashing at sis's tonight or here?  I mean are you going to be safe here on your own?"

"I'll be at Becky's tonight.  I feel a little safer out there right now.  None of the other Kindred knows I am out there except the Prince of course.  I highly doubt that he is going to jeopardize my safety in any way."

Robert frowned at the word prince but didn't push it.  He didn't know vampire politics much and didn't really care to.  After a few more moments of gentle teasing Robert left Xiao and climbed into his pick up.

Xiao watched Robert drove away then headed back to Becky's SUV.  She climbed behind the wheel and grabbed the cell phone that was sitting on the passenger seat.  Using the speed dial, she called Fia's cell and started the engine as she waited to see if the phone would be answered.

Sunday May 9th, 1999 10:41 p.m.  - - Clan Gangrel - -  On the road  - -  Xiao

Xiao was almost surprised that Fia answered her phone.  Granted she had stood up for Fia at her trial at Court but when it came time to adopted the Sabbat leftovers for some reason she had kept her mouth shout, even after promising Fia that she would take on Chaz.  Instead she had allowed that pompous ass Angel to take him on.  Well Xiao just hoped that Angel had the balls to control him once Chaz discovered the extent of his powers.  Giving herself a mental slap she pulled back to the present and the situation at hand.  "Hi Fia.  Look sis we really need to talk.  I got called into the Million Dollar Club tonight.  One of the other girls called in sick and they need me to help with amateur night.  If you want to meet me there I will be on till about 1:30 a.m. and I will leave yours and Waylon's names with the bouncer at the door so he will comp you in."  Xiao was glad that she was going to work at the Million Dollar tonight as it was the only one of the three she worked that actually had a shower for the girls to use.  If Fia and Waylon were going to be meeting her there Xiao would defiantly need to try and wash as much of Roberts scent off of her as possible.  It wouldn't do for them to show up and get a strong whiff of Werewolf rolling off of her.  She had heard Waylon's comment in the background and it brought a slight smile to her lips.  Xiao was surprised that Fia was with him but reserved her judgement on the situation till she knew more about it.  "Tell Waylon that he is welcome to try amateur night.  He might actually enjoy it."  There was a hint of laughter in her voice as she said it.

Feeding wasn't difficult, when you knew where and when to strike.  Fia was full and Waylon had topped up.  It hadn't taken long.  A quick run up Olympic drive and a short trip along the highway brought them to the Million Dollar Saloon.  It was a large club and the parking lot was more than half full, even this late on a Sunday.

"I doubt they'll let me up on stage for amateur night,"  the Toreador said as he paid the cover charge.  "Considering how this is a men's club.  Now, does she dance under her own name or will I get funny looks if I ask for Xiaoqing?"

When they stepped out of the elevator Doug pulled out his cell phone and called Waylon's number. It went to voice mail but he wasn't terribly surprised, it was still pretty early. "Hey, Waylon, this is Butcer -Doug", he had to get used to not being Butcher, "I wanted to know if you were going to be available tonight so we could put together a plan over a bite to eat and maybe have some fun. Dana will probably be there with me as well since we're being released on our own recognizance for the first time. I've got a couple of errands to run first but that shouldn't take more than fifteen or twenty minutes."

When he hung up, he smiled lovingly at his bike, wiped her off with a dirty rag he pulled out of his saddlebag and straddled his baby.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 11:06 pm - Some local Stop n Rob - Butcher/Doug

They had gotten a quick bite to eat, picked up Dana's bike, grabbed some blood from the local butcher, which Doug had placed in a cooler stored in a saddlebag, hit the liquor store and gotten a few bottles and was just walking out of some corner stop-n-rob after having paid a small fortune for a carton of fags, when his phone rang.

As soon as he answered the phone Waylon began speaking. After the first sentence, Doug was grinning. By the time he'd finished speaking, Doug was had a beatific smile on his face.

"She's one of the Gangrel's from the meeting, right? Hell yes I wanna join!!", he whooped. "I know where thats at. Even if I hadn't spent the better part of a week riding on patrol with the honcho, I could sniff out a strip club from a mile away. sounds like a party fucking party", he exclaimed.

"Be there in fifteen minutes." Before the line disconnected Waylon could hear him shouting to Dana as he lowered the phone, "Strip club! One of the kindred we met is a fucking performer!"

Doug didn't wait to see if Dana was following, he yelled out the directions in case she lost him, started his bike, pushed the carton into a saddle bag, popped the clutch bringing the bike into an insanely angled wheelie and roared off into the night screaming, "Hiyo Silver, Motherfuckers!!!"

Sunday May 9th, 1999 - 10:50 p.m. - 11:07 p.m.  - -  The Million Dollar Club  - -  Xiaoqing

Xiao pulled Becky's SUV into the girls lot behind the club and slipped it into an empty space.  She grabbed her purse as she slid off the front seat and closed the drivers door after locking it.  Quickly walking the two hundred yards to the back door of the club she entered the club just as one of the other girls was exiting.  They changed a quick hello and then the other girl disappeared into the dark and Xiao into the hallway of the club.  She practically bounced into the locker room, dialed the combination on her locker and tossed her purse inside.  Without looking at what she was grabbing she pulled out a tank top and a pair of hot pants then headed to the shower.  Luckily no one else was using it at the time.  A quick three minute scalding hot shower later and she was dressed in the pale blue tank and shorts that looked like they would split at the seams if she breathed to deeply let alone moved at all.  Back in the locker room she slipped on a pair of three inch high tan strap sandals.  30 seconds of using a hair drier had her long hair was almost completely dry.  Xiao made her way onto the club floor and through the gathering crowd to the front door.  There were two bouncers on duty that night instead of the usual one due to it being amateur night.  She recognized one of them and pulled him just inside for a quick minute.  Xiao knew him not only from the club but also around town and knew that he was a fang junkie which would work to her advantage this night.  Usually she would try to avoid such people but tonight was different then most.  She gave him a detailed description of both Fia and Waylon and promised the bouncer a good time later in one of the private rooms if he would comp them in.  Xiao disappeared back into the club to see just how much of a disaster this amateur night was going to be.  She entered the large room where all the girls and a few guys who had come to strut their stuff on stage were being herded.  Taking a quick look around she let out a shrill whistle that cut through the loud ruckus of the room.  Having gotten everyone's attention she quickly took command of the gaggle of amateurs.

"Right.  Everyone listen up.  You are here because you think you have what it takes to be a stripper.  Take it from me, at least ten percent of you won't even make it to the stage.  Not because anyone here is going to stop you but because just before walking out from behind that curtain and onto the stage the thought that you are going to take all your clothes off in front of hundreds of horny, grabby men is going to enter your mind.  That realization is going to hit you and you are going to start puking your guts out.  That is nothing to be ashamed of.  Most professional strippers have done that at least once, the trick is to get past that and go on anyways.  For the other 90% of you.  You are going to go out on that stage with no training and no real idea as to what a stripper does.  I am sure you think you have an idea of what we do and how we do it but let me assure you, you don't.  Before any of you will be allowed to get on stage you will have to watch the girls who work the club do their routines first.  So we have five girls who will show you how things are done tonight.  Watch them closely, ask them questions when they come off stage and back to this room.  We are here to help you.  All of us will show you just about anything you want us to.  Now.  We need to figure out what types of costumes and music each of you are going to use.  I need you to line up against the walls and then step forward as I call you to the center of the room."

Xiao was about 2/3 of the way through with setting up the amateurs when one of the other girls came into the room and whispered in her ear.  A quick grin split her lips and she passed the amateurs off to the other girl and she headed out to the club floor.  She spotted Fia and Waylon in the crowd and made a bee line toward them.  "Fia, Waylon," she called to them waving.  "I'm glad you could make it.  Did either of you want to try amateur night?" she asked with a rakish grin, the offer put more towards Waylon then Fia.  "We have a large number of woman and even a few men tonight but I am sure I could squeeze one or both of you in.  You could even do a duel routine."  Xiao gave them each a hug, hoping that she had been able to wash enough of Robert's scent off her that it wasn't detectable by either of them.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 11:07-11:17 pm - Some local Stop n Rob - Butcher/Doug

After a hundred feet or so he stopped whopping and let the front wheel lower slowly back to the ground. It touched down gently, with the barest  whisper of sound and a slight nudge as the front wheel caught up to the road speed of the rear. He leaned back and enjoyed the feeling of freedom that always accompanied riding for him. The bike was an extension of his own body and he loved playing with it. He was glad that the power he felt from his vampiric abilities had never replaced that feeling for him, as Scotty had mentioned he'd seen happen with other people. Sure, he could pick up and throw a dresser bike like it was a bail of hay and someday would probably be able to even outrun it, but that was irrelevant. It was that feeling of Zen and at-oneness with the bike, the road and everything around him, that made him fall in love with riding in the first place.

He kept an eye out for cops and let himself loose on the road, thundering down the asphalt at breakneck speed, weaving smoothly through traffic like some sort of land bound shark on crack navigating a coral reef. Even when he was human, he acquired a kind of grace on his bike that left even skilled riders impressed and non-riders in awe. In the purest biker stereotype, he knew without words that this wasn't something you did, this was something you were.

He acknowledged that Donna had made a smart move in letting the two of them out to go play this evening. He hadn't been able to truly relax since he started to get worried about Scotty weeks ago but things were starting to change now. He was thinking he might be starting to make some actual friends soon. His gut still had a raging bonfire in it over what had happened to Scotty and he needed to think about doing something to acknowledge the death of his Sire, put a formal end to it so he could start to move past it. Might do the rest of the clan, what little was left anyway, to do the same. But there was action being taken now, no matter if he agreed with actual course of it or not, it was a start. Plus he now had a childe to consider but that could wait for the evening as well. Right now it was time to relax and enjoy life.

He came out of his reverie wondering where the time had gone as he saw the club coming up and wondered if this was a BYOB place or if they served drinks inside. He was smiling as he looked around for other bikes, checking to see if there was bike parking or if he should pull up on the sidewalk or back into the nearest parking space to the door. He knew from past experience that it wouldn't be good for anyone if he left it someplace where some drunk idiot would accidentally bang into it with a car or stumble and knock it over. He'd be just as likely to tear a head or two off and drink from the stump as not.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 11:06 - 11:17pm -  Million Dollar Salloon - Dana

Dana followed Doug quickly, her old but well loved bike easily keeping up despite the fact he didn't look back to see if she was. It was no concern of hers as she was no concern of his. A strip club was not an unusual haunt for Dana. She smirked to herself as the wind whipped at her face hoping that something good would come out of the evening, if not revelry then the violent sort.

Off the bike Dana lit a smoke and puffed it out into the night before turning to Doug and power burning it half to the filter.
"This should be good if she's representing Gangrel. They're all float like deer and sting like a tiger or some shit." She took another drag as they approached the establishment. "But it's just the rippers so I'm not worried about the performance. There's worse. 'Cause you know what a Tijuana Donkey Show is?"

Once he was done with flask he lit a smoke and said, "OK, time to go play. I hope we haven't missed the beginning." With that he stretched and headed towards the door.

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 11:20pm Million Dollar saloon

The Bouncer at the Door wore a pair of dark cargos and a white dress shirt and a shaved head. He asked for ID scanned it and nodded as he let those that had opened. "Have a pleasant night. And remember house rules no touching the girls and theres a two drink minimum" the bouncer replied as the door to the club opened. The throbbing base line of the music within drifted out into the night air.

The club was dark and it took a moment for the eyes to adjust as they walked down the corridor the dark blue patterned carpet drew the visitors down the halls to a set of heavy oak and brass doors.

As the doors were opened once could see across the room the stage that was alight with black light and a brass pole. The left side of the club held the bar the cooler behind it stocked with a large selection of beers. A large sign announced bottles were 5 bucks and that shooter night was 3 for 8 bucks. Pitchers were 25.

The adjacent side of the bar was a lit up kitchen the salon style shutters helped block out the light and the scent of Chicken wings and oven baked pizza drifted out into the join. In the far off corner 2 pool tables sat two gentlemen were already there playing a friendly game and behind them the latest drama of The World Wresting Federation was playing on the wide screen as two wrestlers grappled on the mat and another intercepted and tried to sneak in and rescue with partner in a sudden pin by using a chair to smack some sense into the opposition.

On the stage a young girl frolicked and rolled around on the stage apparently having fun with her set.

The club itself could house maybe 60 people it was small and intimate but outer edge of the club had large spacious boots that could hold up to persons if you got friendly. the rest of the  tables were singe seaters that sat spread out from the head of of the stage area and ended maybe 10 feet from the entrance from where you walked in. The single tables were able to be picked up and moved to be connected with others however with the exception of perverts row which was a lip table that could seat 9 around the stage comfortably.

This was the Million Dollar Saloon. The Dj beside the kitchen changed up songs and announced that the next contestants would be coming up soon to be judged but to enjoy the last set by one of their professional dancers unit then.

Doug gave the bouncer a grin and wink, "Thanks, I'm sure I'll have a helluva good night. Same to you, man."

As they got into the bar, Doug thought, nice and cozy, my kind of joint. A place where no one as questions as long as shit didn't get out of hand.

He was supposed to hook up with Waylon and the others on perverts row so he made his way that direction looking for his adopted clan mate, admiring the enthusiasm of the girl, apparently amateur, that was just finishing up her number.

Xiao got Fia and Waylon settled in at a private table and was about to join them when the manager flagged her down.  'Shit' was the only thing that ran through her head.  "If the two of you would excuse me for a few minutes.  It looks like the manager needs to speak with me."  She flashed them a smile then went to see what he wanted.  It took less then a minute for him to say his fill and disappear back into his office.  As Xiao turned and made her way towards the room where the amateur dancers waited, a look of pure unadulterated anger in her eyes.  Why he thought she was the best one to deal with these people she didn't know but she was very tempted to strangle the info out of him after the end of the night.  As she passed by Fia and Waylon she gave them a nod and small shrug.  "Sorry guys.  I have to go and deal with somethings that have to do with amateur night.  I will be back as soon as I can."  She made her way through the crowd and into the room with the waiting aspiring dancers.  "OK listen up," she hollered over the noise.  "I've just been informed by the manager that,as of last week, this establishment no longer allows males to participate in amateur night.  So guys, thank you for coming out but I am sorry you will not be allowed on stage.  Feel free to find a seat in the main room and enjoy the nights entertainment."  Both her tone and the look on her face made it perfectly clear that she would not tolerate any arguments from anyone on this topic.  She had told them how it was and that was that.  "Now as for the rest of you, two of the other girls will be in within the next five minutes to get you into your costumes, tell you what music you will be using, give you the line up for the night and to answer any last minute questions you might have.  The best advice I can give you girls is to just have fun."  Xiao turned and left the room.  She returned to Fia and Waylon and took a seat at their table.  "OK darlings.  I don't go on till last tonight so we have time to talk.  First things first"  Xiao turned to Fia.  "How are you holding up sis?  I know it can't be easy with Sarah planning on leaving us and all."

As he headed to perverts row, he failed to see Waylon and did a double-check of the room. His attention was drawn to the Gangrel he saw at the meeting the night before straighten up from a table and walk towards the back, dressed in an extremely flattering ensemble to say the least. He whistled appreciatively with a wolfish grin and looked at the table she had just left.

Seeing Waylon, he ambled over with a grin, "Waylon, be honest, you weren't possibly expecting to hide the fact that you were just here to admire Xiaoqing, you pig", he laughed.

Doug leaned down and gave him a brief hug, giving him a couple of strong claps to one shoulder. "Thanks for the invite", he said with a smile.

He gave a friendly smile and nodded to the other Gangrel, Fia, he remembered, and said, "What happened to perverts row?"

A cute blonde with her hair done up in a lose pony tail came up to them dressed in her uniform which consisted of a short black skirt and a tight low cut red and white to shirt that read Million Dollar Saloon with the silhouette of a topless woman riding on the back of a bronco. She flashed the table a smile.

"My name is Amy I'm your shooter waitress for the night What is everyone having tonight? Tonights specials is 3 shots for eight bucks we have b52's silver bullets, Black Sambucca ,  Tequila and JaggerMiester as tonights special shooters. Our other special is a platter with 30 wings and a pitcher of beer for 40 bucks."

Xiao looked up as Doug and Dana stopped at the table.  Doug's comment to Waylon about his coming to admire her was ignored as it was by far one of the mildest comments along those lines that she had heard in a very long time.  "Doug, Dana," she nodded to each of them in turn.  "Please join us.  I thought it might be better if we had a private table where we could talk.  It is less likely we will be over heard here then if we were sitting in perverts row.  I have some Kindred business I need to talk to Fia about and I don't fancy being overheard by mortal ears."  She gave Amy a grin as the girl spoke and Doug put in his order.  "Just put it on my tab Amy.   I believe my friends here intend to have a good time tonight so you might just want to keep the drinks coming."  She turned her attention back to her companions.  "I hope all of you will stick around till the end of the night and watch my routine.  It's something new I have been working and I could really use some unbiased opinions on it."

"I'm an admirer of beauty in all it's facets, Doug,"  Waylon answered.  "Beautiful women.  Beautiful sunsets.  The fact that Xiaoqing is smoking hot and I'm planning on being in pervert's row when she dances has nothing to do with the fact that it's the closest I'm every going to get to having her rolling around naked with me in an orgy of satin sheets and baby oil.  I'll be there to admire her athleticism and skill.  And her flexibility.  Definitely her flexibility."  He chuckled impishly.

"Amy, I'll take a six pack of tequila as well and when you get the chance, a vodka on the rocks.  And whatever you do, don't give Doug your number.  He may look like a man but deep inside he's 'sensitive'.  Unless you're into that kinda thing."  He slid a twenty across the table.  "Keep the change."

When the waitress departed, Waylon looked at Xiaoqing.  "Is this private business or can the three of us sit in?  Part of the deal I made with Sara was to keep an eye on the two of you, if that helps."

She gave her a smile, "I'm holding up, I guess. It's a lot of change," Fia shrugged, "I just want her to be happy, you know? An' safe. I can understand why she's leaving." Fia, herself, had those reasons and more, but she couldn't just leave. Not with all those eyes on her.

Fia nodded greetings to the Brujah as they spread around the table. She hadn't really had a chance to get to know anyone except her clan and her pussy posse, but Doug and Dana seemed cool.

Aside from the topic of Sarah, Fia had no idea what Xiao wanted to talk about. Not that she minded the company. Just no sudden movements...

He grinned, "Don't be jealous, Waylon, it's unbecoming. I have the best of both worlds. The passionate, sensitive spirit of a poet and rugged good looks", he gave Amy a sincere look, "So please, feel free to give me your number if you ever want to talk."

He chuckled as Amy walked away, "I appreciate the drinks, Xiaoqing. I'm operating on limited funds until I can find a source of income up here. My previous employment was something I had to leave behind, unfortunately."

When Waylon finished speaking, Doug nodded, "Speaking of stepping on toes, I know we're on the border of hunting grounds out here but you work here and I'm the new kid on the block. If you want to put this place off limits, I get it."

"Not jealous, Doug," Waylon replied. "Just trying to help you score a few digits.  As far as feeding goes, Centennial Parkway marks the border between Hamilton and Stoney Creek.  Technically we're sitting just inside the Toreador-Ventrue hunting grounds.  You're here with me so I think we're covered for tonight but if you want to gain feeding rights here you'll need to talk to Helen and Mark."

He picked up one of his tequila shots and, in a prime display of sleight of hand, dumped it out while pretending to drink it.  He grinned.  "Of course you could just feed here to piss them off.  Not the wisest plan at the moment but hey, what do I know?"

Sunday May 9th, 1999 - 11:26 p.m.  - -  Million Dollar Club  - -  Xiaoqing

"It is just some basic clan business is all.  Nothing the rest of you can't hear."  Xiao just had to smile at Waylon's comments about his love of all things beautiful as well as his comments about her looks and as yet unseen dancing abilities.  But she turned her attention to Doug when he asked about feeding in the club.  "It is a general unspoken rule that none of us feed inside the strip clubs.  That does not mean that you can't take a prospective meal out back and find a nice patch of shadows or an unlocked car.  It is just that most of Hamilton's Kindred have agreed that feeding inside is in bad taste.  There is always the risk that the police might decide to raid the place while you are feeding.  Not to mention that all the clubs have a 'look but no touch' policy that is strictly enforced.  Even the private rooms have hidden surveillance cameras for the girls safety.  And as Waylon stated, we are right on the border of both the Ventrue and Toreador Clans new feeding grounds.  It really would not be very prudent to get into hot water with either clan after being in town for such a short time.  I don't know how either clan would take to having you feed on their turf without permission.  But not only is Waylon here to represent his clan, but this is one of the three clubs that I work and it is not unusual for other Kindred to come and watch me dance."

Xiao turned her attention back to Fia and gave the other Gangrel's hand what she could only hope translated as a reassuring squeeze.  "I know you wish you could follow Sarah out of town sis.  If I didn't have some things tying me here right now I would have voiced my intentions to leave and petitioned to be allowed to take you with me.  We need to make some decisions about what we are going to do with Sarah leaving.  Is one of us going to step up and try to led what little is left of the clan here in Hamilton or are we going to go our own ways?  And if one of us does step up do we talk to the Prince and try to fill Sarah's seat on the council or leave it vacant for now?"  Xiao really didn't want to have to step up and try to fill Sarah's shoes.  Not that she thought she was not capable of doing so but because it would put more scrutiny on her which she really didn't need right now.

"I'm not cut out for leadership. He chuckled at Waylon's grinning comment about pissing off Helen and Mark. He didn't really need to feed, he planned on keeping topped of on a regular basis until all this shit was well into the past just as a matter of simple precaution but it was always fun to stir the pot and definitely worth it to see how everyone else would react to his question.

When Xiaoqing spoke up about feeding inside the strip club he expected she would tell him to stay the fuck out and he had no beef with that. She worked here, it would be easy to feel ownership of it. Add to that she was Gangrel and he wouldn't have been too surprised to see her become actually pissed. What he absolutely hadn't expected, was a calm, detached lecture on tasteful feeding etiquette, the wisdom of dealing gingerly with the Ventrue and Toreador, and a caution on the club security.

He doubted he would be seeing any Toreador other than Waylon, much less any of the Ventrue, down here anytime soon, with the possible exception of that shady fucker Angel. It was pleasantly surprising to see that this was one of the nicer clubs and actually cared about its girls. Or, really, truly didn't trust them. He wondered briefly it if was a Canada thing. He would have fallen asleep during her speech if he hadn't been so shocked by her behavior. Was every other kindred in this city outside the Brujah actively trying to break the mold of its clan image or was this some kind of Canada thing as well?

He couldn't blame Fia for wanting to bail from all this bullshit but, the Princes magic withstanding, gave her credit for both balls and intelligence for gutting it out rather than just running.

Doug smiled at Fia, "Chin up, Kincaid, you'll be just fine. You've already done the hard part and lived through the bullsh- wait a sec", He blinked at her, then Waylon, then Xiaoqing. "The Ginger Ninja?" He grinned, laughed and said, "OK, this sounds like a story I gotta hear. Wait, wait, I think I should prep myself for this first", he said, as he tossed back a couple of the tequila shooters.

Waylon watched the effortless ease with which Doug tossed back the tequila.  If he did the same, he'd have about ten seconds to get to a bathroom before the liquid came back up again in a crimson tinged display of projectile vomiting.  He sighed.  He was young enough to be envious, rather than repulsed.  "Not much to tell, really.  I'm a ginger.  I'm into martial arts and when the city got hit, I hit the streets in my gi, which happens to be black.  I track like a bloodhound, sneak like a Toronto car thief and attack from concealment without mercy or remorse.  I also catch dropped babies and refuse to back down from people twice my size."  He grinned.  "I wonder what Lobo would think about me schmoozing with his home girls?  I don't think you met him, Doug.  He's over six feet and has a fetish for wearing either nothing at all or designer leather.  It makes him look gayer than Christmas.  We almost got into a fistfight at a council meeting.  Him and Boogie.  Boogie was a New York Brujah biker.  Outlaws, I think.  Died with his boots on, as they say."

Doug threw his head back and gave a genuine, deep belly laugh that made the booth bench rumble under him. When he subsided he said, "That sounds like plenty much to say from my perspective", he said with a smile.

"You're right, I don't think I met Lobo. At least I don't remember him from the council meeting and I usually remember people that come close to looking me in the eye", for a very brief moment the look in his eyes was distracted, "It's doesn't happen as often as it might."

"Outlaw, huh? Well...fuck. I guess I can count even Outlaws brother sometimes. Maybe we wouldn't even have tried to kill one another", he smiled. "Here's to Scotty and Boogie, then. May they remain alive in our memories until the stars burn out", he raised another couple of tequila shooters, "Scotty and Boogie", and downed them both.

He looked somber for a moment and said, "I should go pretend to take a piss", drew himself up out of the booth and lumbered his way towards the bathrooms like some towering viking that had drunk too much mead.

Dana had been transfixed on something in the background of everyone's festivities and conversations, with an expression somewhere between a lioness ready to pounce and pure amusement. She'd sat down distracted and forgotten to introduce herself. You see it had been some time since Dana had been able to sit down and watch the theatrics of the WWF, and to think some preferred the opera was pure confusion to the Brujah. Her lip curled every once in a while in displeasure, but a look of excitement took her face as she smacked her palm on the table "Fuck his shit up! Haha. Good show." With that, and a commercial break the spell was broken and she turned to her fellow kindred.
"Hey all." She looked up just in time to scooch out of Doug's way as he went off.

He took his time wandering into the bathroom, trying to get his mind off of Scotty and the others that had died. He used the practice of many years he'd gained at biker bars across the country to pretend to take a piss.

While he pretended to take a piss he realized something was nagging at him Something about this place was familiar, although he couldn't put a finger on what it was. He took a closer look around the place he realized what it was. This was a club bar. Shit. He hoped no one here would recognize him. He was supposed to be hooking up with the club when he got here, although, clearly, that wasn't on the menu any longer. He'd just play it cool and the odds of anyone recognizing him were slim at best.

He, "finished up", as soon as he could and headed back to the table.

GM note: while in the bathroom Doug would have noticed near one of the urinals a sticker that said Proud supporter of the outlaws stuck to the wall but it has been crossed out and the words Supporter have been markered over top with the words Hater.  Under the sticker the words HAMC 81 forever were written.

"Well", Doug said, "you know us Brujah, it's just a matter of when, right", he winked.

He looked at Fia, "Normally, I'd say it's a great place to settle into for a while but honestly, it's a bit of an adjustment for me. I've been with the MC for longer than I should. They were my family a long time before I was embraced and I stayed there for too long after I was. So, I'm trying to reinvent myself as well. One of the reasons I'm settling in up here. First time for me. On the plus side, I have a great deal to focus on now which helps."

"I appreciate the thought, Waylon, but unless someone wants a catchy logo, poem or epithet, you're right, I'm much better at weaponry. I can put a helluva edge on a blade though. One thing I could do, if we're talking about bikes. If you get into custom bikes, I can ride the hell out of them. if I've got five minutes on the street with it, I can tell you more than most people imagine about what can be done to improve it, from frame to engine. You guys have a pretty good movie industry in the area and I was actually thinking about trying to get into some stunt work."

"Speaking of focus, not right now but in the wee hours or early tomorrow, we should talk about how we're going to make sure as many as possible survive the next few months. I don't care what kind of timeline the upper crust have decided things are going to happen in, shit's gonna hit the fan a fuck of a lot sooner than they expect and I want to make sure that as many as can do it survive to protect my fragile little ass if shit goes south."

His voice grew a bit deeper and resonant,
"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage...", he trailed off, chuckling to himself.

"Or something like that. I'm too new here to know how many can lend the aforementioned hard-favour'd courage. I want to lend such tools as we have to help others find it, if they will."

"We definitely need a better plan. Waiting is only giving them more time to pick us off." And she really didn't want to have her ass kicked again. It didn't tickle. At all.

Doug grimaced, "For anything you might hold holy, don't even think about giving a bike a voice like KIT. Although, maybe if you could come up with a Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine, that would be fun. Maybe even an Agent Smith", he chuckled.

"As for the rest, I have a healthy respect for my elders; I also know that sometimes the past can be as blinding as any ignorance. In the meantime, since I don't see a coup of the kids in the near future, we do what we can to make sure their play works. As I said, the more people fighting effectively, the greater the odds of my tender hide stays unblemished."

He looked at Waylon, "So, I don't see any reason to delay whatever education we can give. My vote is for as many classes as often as we can give them."

His face grew solemn as glanced tothe rest of the group, "And by classes, I don't mean just practicing hand-to-hand six hours a night, every night. We also need to discuss who knows what, take wild guesses and imagine possibilities, learn everything we know as a fact about our enemies and bear in mind what rumor says is possible, make sure everyone is as good a marksman as they can be. We have to learn from each other and from ourselves. It's hard enough for humans to adapt to rapidly changing events and lean new habits, even when their lives depend on it. Its going to be even harder for most of us. The training from the time we're Embraced is designed to pound the exact opposite into us; the long game, the wait it out game. We have to learn to blend the two. I don't know any better time than now to start learning how."

He closed his eyes a moment and then looked mildly at Waylon, "I can talk till I'm blue in the face and offer to teach whatever I can but I'm the hot-headed new Brujah on the block, my shit means nothing. You're the Ginger Ninja. People look up to you. How do we make this happen?", he asked, cocking an eyebrow towards Waylon.

"I've been the ginger ninja for a month, if that,"  Waylon answered.  "As far as what we know, I know we just had a meeting and announced the date of our counterattack.  Not the wisest of things to do in a situation where there is a suspected spy.  Unless it is an attempt at throwing the Sabbat off.  Personally, I say we do as much as we can to get everyone to the highest achievable stage of competence that we can reach given the time we have and then go for it.  It adds a random element and if we go right in the middle of training, everyone will at least be ready to spar, if not ready to fight.  Adrenaline can still do some crazy things, especially if we make sure the right kind of food is on hand."

He chuckled.  "Listen to me, sounding like some kind of battle strategist.  I think our best bet is to track down Donna and pick her brains while we try to learn to keep them from getting beaten in."

Sunday May 9th, 1999 11:26 p.m. - 11:42 p.m.  - -  Milliion Dollar Club  - -  Xiaoqing

Xiao let out a silent sigh of relief.  She hadn't expected Fia to step up and try to take over leadership or to take Sarah's seat on the council but she hadn't been so sure that the other Gangrel would not want Xiao to take over responsibility for them both.  Instead Fia had decided on the 'Everyone for themselves' option.  An option that suited Xiao just fine right now.  After all, the Gangrel were probably the least social of all the Camarilla clans, only coming together when circumstances dictated they must do so for some reason, usually self preservation.  She listened to the others talk and when it turned to the subject of training and information swapping she almost bit her tongue to keep from saying anything unless she gave herself away.  Xiao wished wistfully that this assignment would be over soon so she and Robert could get the hell out of here and start over someplace quieter.  Suddenly she sat bolt upright and smiled, her gaze out on the floor of the club.  It was obvious that something or someone had caught her attention.  "If you all would excuse me for awhile one of my regular clients just walked in.  I need to go make an appearance and see if he is looking for a private show."  She slid away from the table and slipped gracefully through the crowd.

If any of the others bothered to watch they would have noticed that she approached a heavy set, middle aged man in a three piece business suit.  The man stood at least five feet seven inches and most have weighed at least three hundred pounds if he was an ounce.  Xiao glided up to him, stood on tiptoes and whispered something in his ear.  He turned, smiled and nodded.  His right hand twitched and started to come forward as it raised away from his side but he caught himself before actually making contact with her.  Xiao led the way to one of the private rooms, said something else to him, opened the door and then disappeared towards the back locker room to change.

Xiao slipped into the changing room and quickly rummaged through her outfits hanging on one of those movable floor racks.  It took nearly a full minute before she found the one she was looking for but once she did it took less then 30 seconds for her to change out of the tank top and hot shorts and into the Catholic School Girl outfit.  She pulled her hair into pigtails, slipped on anklet socks and 'Buster Brown' shoes.  A quick, light coating of makeup and she was ready to go.  Taking a back hallway out of the changing room she made her way to the back of the stage in the private room.  Flipping a switch on the wall she turned on the lap over the outer door indicating that the room was in use.  Then she dialed in a numbered code on a small key pad that set the lighting and music in the room, waited for a solid ten seconds and took the stage.

Doug nodded to Xiaoqing as she excused herself then looked back at the rest of them and settled on Waylon, "Announcing the date was a bit unexpected but, hey, as I was so bluntly, and reasonably, told, they have their secrets. In any case, I agree with you. We train our asses off and find a way to act decisively before the enemy expects it."

He hesitated a moment, "As for Donna, I agree, we should definitely bring her in on this. We have to trust someone and she's got my loyalty for sundry and probably obvious reasons. That being said, I'm not sure she's going to tell us anything other than, 'What the fuck are you waiting around asking me for?', if you get my drift. This isn't exactly something the time to be waiting around in a committee waiting for a unanimous vote on what to do."

"I'll talk to Donna in depth about our plans and if anyone wants to be there, let me know now and we can get it done tonight with luck. In the meantime, I'd say the best plan is to come up with reasonable framework that leaves it entirely voluntary and get started tomorrow night at the latest, preferably tonight. Start with the absolute fundamentals of unarmed combat, no edging; Get into more advanced stuff as the basics become solid. We can think about the firearms towards the end of the week after we've got an idea of everyones starting point with unarmed."

He raised an eyebrow and glanced around the table, "Anyone have any actual objections and if not, lets get opinions on late or early in the evenings? I can tell you that regardless of what the outcome is, I'll be making myself available to teach and learn whatever I can, with whoever I can, starting tomorrow. Time to be determined by the end of our conversation."

"Well, Fia is giving me a lift to pick up a truck tomorrow night but after that I'm free."  Waylon grinned.  "Joys of being one step away from independantly wealthy.  As long as I can get Helen a painting or three every month I have an income.  She's likely going to shit bricks when she finds out I'm turning my talents to custom paint jobs for cars, bikes or trucks.  So, why don't we get started tomorrow night?  All we need is a time to start and a place to do it in."

Sunday, May 9th, 1999 - 11:43 pm - Emerald St. - Rory

"No, I just want to send the damn message! Send it!"

A small, ginger-haired girl shouted in futility at the prerecorded voice at the other end of the payphone. For the fifth time that night, she slammed the phone down on its hanger. And for the fifth time (or perhaps more), the scandally-clad woman at the street corner turned to watch the girl flip out from inside the phone booth... and the insistent homeless man outside it harassing her.

"We'll try this again!" The now thoroughly disturbed girl spoke, picking up the phone and punching in Fia's number again, trying not to pay attention to the vulgar gestures being made by the man on the other side of the Plexiglas. "Come on, come on, come on..." The normally mild-mannered girl banged on the top of the phone, perhaps hoping that it would somehow fix her problem. "No, I know I haven't put in any money! I don't have any, you stupid-"

The girl stopped and took one long breath, trying to calm herself. She'd almost managed it, too. But when she opened her eyes, the homeless man was there with his face pressed up against the glass, almost right in front of her - she screamed.

The girl inside the booth had every right to be upset - and it went far beyond the disturbances of a homeless man and a prostitute. She'd been through an awful lot over the last month or so. More than she'd had to face in a long while. And unfortunately for one Bell payphone (with some really rather muddled-looking collect call instructions), the ginger youth had had just about enough stress for one lifetime.

All of a sudden, she froze. "Oh yeah, you're supposed to hit zero or something..."

Finally, the prerecorded lady on the phone prompted the girl for her name.

"Rory Collins," she announced, and was followed by a bark. The vampire smiled, and she added in a much calmer, and much more relieved voice, "And Cash."

"Hey, Fia...? Its, uh... Its Rory. I'm stuck at the corner of Emerald... Do you think you can send someone to get me? I'm, uh..." Rory paused, glancing at the man outside whose face was still pressed in an unflattering manor against the glass, "I'm kinda stuck in a phone-booth."

And at last, the call went through.

Fia let out a small squeak when her cell phone started to vibrate in her pocket. She wasn't expecting any calls.

Bell Payphone
Calling...

"Excuse me for a minute, please. I have to take this," she squeezed her way away from the table and made her way into the bathroom.

"Accept, accept." she hissed as she stabbed 1 a couple of times. "Rory?! Where are you? Emerald and what?"

After a few a moments of talking Fia found out that she was going to be picking Rory up at the corner of Emerald and King.

Fia made her way back to the table, "Hey, guys? I just got a call from Rory. Yeah. I have to go and pick her up at Emerald. What did you guys want to do?"

It wasn't hard to find her near the variety store and the burger joint an old man was tapping on the phone booth telling her to get out cause he needed to make a call but that he needed change to do so.

Doug let out a sigh of relief when he got off the phone with Donna, glad that the kid had calmed down. He pushed it out of his mind and brought himself back to the here and now as he hooked up with the others on the way to the parking lot.

Once outside, he sat down on his bike and lowered the rear pegs as he grinned at Waylon, "If you've ridden before, cool, if not, just keep your back in line with my back, no matter where or how far I lean and relax. We'll play sweeper and stay behind the rest."

True to his word, he kept in the rear and made it a relaxing, easy ride. He wondered where Rory had been and if she had been followed back into town but decided other than keeping his eyes open, there wasn't much to do about it and they would find out the former, at least, in a few minutes.

When they reached the corner of Emerald and King and saw the situation Doug called over his shoulder, "Hold on to the sissy bar a sec", and with a slight gunning of the engine pulled his bike up onto the sidewalk stopping it inches from the old homeless man at the door to the phone booth.

As he called to Waylon, "OK, Waylon, you're up", he glanced at the phone booth. "I'll be damned, it really is an actual phone booth."

Waylon had no idea what a sissy bar was but he knew what Doug meant when he told him he was up.  Realizing that he looked like a biker's bitch as he swung his leg up and over the rear wheel to dismount, he measured the old man.  He read the story written on the old man's face, the misery and pain etched in every line, the self abuse that shone from his eyes like a blazing beacon of debasement.  He didn't want to hurt this harmless old degenerate.

"Hey, buddy.  Why don't you go grab a bite to eat from the Harvest Burger and maybe a beer.  By then she should be done with the phone."  He held up a ten dollar bill, that would more than cover the suggested meal.  "What do you say?"

Monday, May 10th, 1999 - 12:02 pm - Corner of Emerald and King - Rory

The carrot-topped girl opened her eyes with a start. Cash had begun barking vigorously at something, clearly in excitement; at least, clear to the oversized German Shephard's companion. Perhaps not so clear to the unfortunate man outside.

It only took her a moment to realize what had caught her companion's attention - She both saw and heard the motorcycle rumble up beside the phone booth.

A smile practically smacked itself onto her face and she flew from her feet like foam from a mentos and diet cola concoction. She had, up until now, kept herself all bunched up off to one corner of the booth, eyes shut and jacket over her head. Oh, the whims of irrational fear.

"Am I ever glad to see you!" Rory spoke from inside the phone booth, determined to remain inside her makeshift fortress of Bell property until the recently paid-off disheveled looking man had completely disappeared from sight. It didn't take him long - his eagerness to spend his newfound wealth was clearly carrying his feet.

With feigned confidence, Rory exited the booth and smiled. She couldn't honestly say she felt any safer. Though, she couldn't ever honestly say she ever felt completely safe in the presence of men (particularly in the case of Doug, who was quite intimidating in size and build). But certainly anything was better than ravenous Sabbat and random, wild Hamiltonians - and in this respect, Rory could say she felt much safer now than she had in quite some time. Besides, one of the two men had a motorcycle! Who could complain about a motorcycle? Certainly not Rory.

"Nice to meet you, Doug," she replied, holding the booth door open for Cash. Her four-legged friend immediately made it his business to inspect her rescuers. He seemed less than thrilled about the Brujah, but lingered at the Toreador's side, even attempting to lick his hand.

Rory paused, pointed, and squinted thoughtfully at the other ginger, attempting to recall his name. She'd only met the man briefly - just the once, as she remembered it. He'd caused a small scene at Whitehern during introductions on her first day in Hamilton. His nature seemed less aggressive than his initial impression had suggested, a fact which the young Gangrel had gathered from Cash' reaction to him alone.

"I... can't remember your name for the life of me!" Rory said with a chuckle, a little embarrassed but not surprised by her inability to recall it. She had been rather distracted that night, after all.

The younger, and perhaps far less-awesomely-titled ginger of the two grinned and gave a short giggle at Waylon's ninja line. Fia was a name Rory recognized more readily, though she couldn't be sure if she could remember the name's face.

"Sounds good," she spoke, and added in a more hushed tone, "mister Ginger Ninja."

Rory smiled back at Doug, made more confident by Waylon's previous comment and Doug's apparently agreeable disposition towards Cash. Though Rory wasn't particularly trusting in her own respect, she held dog lovers in high respect. Cash continued to inspect his human partner's newfound companions quietly.

"Oh, uhh... Did you have any place in mind?" The Gangrel asked Doug. She hadn't really thought about her intentions beyond 'get in familiar company again, as soon as possible'. "I'm... not too familiar with the area, really. Well, I guess that's clear by my call, huh?" She gave a meek chuckle, inwardly kicking herself for pointing out her own navigational incompetence.

Dana kept herself astride her bike, it was for the best that Waylon was the first to get up to the man. Dana's tactics for dealing with such people was far less savoury and didn't involve any reading of wrinkled skin or softhearted feelings...Little in Dana's life involved reading and softhearted feelings. The Brujah gave a nod from her bike and a quick "Name's Dana", in lei of a greeting, but when Cash's investigation of the group brought him before her she warmed up considerably.

"Well hello there handsome, aren't you a big boy? Does she feed you babies, I bet she feeds ya babies. You go nom nom nom on the babies don'tchya? Oh yes I bet you do." She said as she ruffled a hand in the thick fur of the not so eager canine, being dead never was a good draw for animals. It must have confused Cash, between her off putting sent and the baby like tone often associated with lovin's, but considering his owner, she was sure he was used to it. She let the others hackle through the where's and why's as Cash moved on to Fia.

Xiao had led her client to the one private room in which the security camera was not working thanks to a rather rowdy customer.  The camera had been broken for a good three weeks but none of the girls were in any hurry to inform the manager that it was down.  This was the only room were they could get down and dirty without any fear of the bouncers butting in.  She took the stage and started her routine.  Xiao was very familiar with this particular clients rather peculiar fantasies.  He liked his dancers young, the younger the better and since she could easily pass as 14 with the right outfit and hairstyle she had quickly become his favorite.  Tonight she was going to give him a new fantasy to take home with him, the virginal Catholic School Girl and the horny step dad.  It was a fantasy that would keep him coming back to her for months to come.  As she danced it became plain that she knew just which buttons to push for this particular man.  It was less then 5 minutes before he had his pants down around his ankles and Xiao was on his lap.  She leaned into his neck and made all the proper sounds.  As she snuggled in closer her hunger started to rise.  Xiao had only managed to grab a small snack on the way into work and it had done little to sate her hunger.  She closed her eyes and bit deep into the back of his shoulder.  Drinking just enough to take the edge off her hunger, she licked the wound closed and pulled back to look him in the face.  Xiao smiled at the look of pure pleasure on his face.  She knew that it was not all from the sex but that he enjoyed being bitten by her.

He had been part of her herd in Toronto and the first time he had shown up at one of the clubs she was working here in Hamilton she didn't know what to think.  He could have been sent by the Sabbat to keep an eye on her or it could have just been a coincidence.  Either way it worked to her advantage.  He provided a steady meal and he also occasionally carried information back and forth for her.  And tonight he would receive an envelope to take back to Toronto with him.  It took her a full twenty minutes to finish with him in the VIP room and then he returned to the main floor while she went back, took a quick one minute shower and changed back into the tank top and hot shorts.  When she finally got back to the table she was not too surprised to see that the others had left already.  She really hadn't expected them to hang around after Fia and her had concluded the little bit of business they had had.  Well maybe she had slightly expected Doug to hang around a little longer but not the others.  Xiao shrugged it off and went to see how the amateurs were holding up.

"We could hop over there I 'spose, don't have much else to do this fine evenin'."  The girl straddled her bike in a decisive fashion, revving the engine to a warm purr beneath her.

"It not my best work but its going to suit what you need done." John replied. "I still need to caulk ar-"

The knock on the apartment door was a bit of a surprise to Donna. Her mood was mildly soured by the scrambling around she had to do to clean up after Dougs childe. It would be the first and last freebie she gave him despite her not saying so.

While the new Brujah had been out playing Donna had gotten on the phone and called a contact. One of her faithful customers that normally bought a qp of weed off her a month. John, who happened to be a plumber by trade, had swore but agreed to come over and see what he could do. That had meant having Mike hide in the bedroom with the door shut. The newly embraced vampire had listlessly obeyed and sat alone in the room to ponder his new shitty life.

"Johnny gimme a moment I got someone at the door."

John shrugged "Busy gal you keep some odd hours. Then again thats something I've always liked about you."

Donna looked though the peephole and sighed. "Roomates back as are new friends."  she replied loud enough for the Kindred in the Hallway to hear that she had someone inside the apartment.

"Come in but mind your manners." She replied as she opened the door.

"I'd rather not talk about it." Donna replied. "Lets leave it too I had a friend over that had too much to drink and he took it out on my sink cause he decided his life sucked."

"Hi," Rory smiled and gave a tiny wave at Donna upon their being introduced.

She entered the apartment, noting its mix of familiarity and strangeness. It was similar in structure to the apartment she'd briefly shared with a few others here at Tisdale Apartments, however the decor and aroma of the place was entirely foreign to her. Once inside, the ginger girl slid off her bright-green converse and beckoned Cash toward the balcony, nodding at the plumber on her way out and closing the door behind her. Cash whined.

"Oh, don't give me that," she chided him. He whined again.

"I'll be back out in a bit, you big baby," Rory told him as she kneeled and ruffled the long fur on his neck with both hands. She planted a kiss on his forehead before standing up to reenter the apartment.

She grabbed up one in her teeth and held the open package out to the rest of the room. "Anyone?"

He looked at Donna, "To address Waylon's invitation, since its the younger ones that will need the most work to be effective and we're going to be the bulk of the force in this game, we decided no time to start like the present, especially since we're going to need to start patrols yesterday, so we'll start by evaluating what we have and familiarizing ourselves with each others capabilities then try start training in a fashion that will play make us most effective, starting tomorrow night. Tonight to debrief Rory and hopefully exchange some factual data on what we know about the opposition. That's the plan anyway. So what do you think? Rory shook her head a little more meekly than she'd meant to at Dana's offer.

"Cigarettes don't agree with me," she said, smiling apologetically. What she had really meant to say was 'Smokers don't agree with me'. Though she had nothing against smokers in general, in her own experience, there had been few positive people in her life had smoked - her mother, Edward... All the worst influences with the worst memories attached to them that made smoking leave a bad taste in Rory's mouth, all jokes aside. And presently, a smokey, unpleasant smell in her nostrils...

On the other hand, not all smokers were bad. There was Cliff, after all.

Rory was brought back to a smile by Waylon's mention of ninjitsu - and maybe just a little by the memory of her sire. It was somewhat short-lived, however, replaced with a much more quizzical look. "Debrief me?" she asked, suddenly feeling much (and perhaps, with her curious eyes and wandering stare, even looking) like a child among grown-ups again.

Rory shifted in her seat, a little stiff simply because she was unfamiliar with Donna, never mind Donna's abode. It wasn't so much that she was uncomfortable - just nervous.

"Uh, well..." The ginger girl started, fixing her imperfect ponytail and adjusting her position again, still sitting almost perfectly upright. Outside, she could hear Cash barking up a storm, encouraging every dog in earshot of him.

"We ran into a little trouble, got held up. I'll give you three guesses by what." She paused to clear her throat. "But, we've been in the city a while, actually. Monday, May 10th, 1999 - 12:21 am - Tisdale Apartments - Dana

Dana picked herself up wordlessly from her slouched position on the chair and moved to the small kitchen. She started opening up cupboards and was not surprised to see most of them void of any contents. There were some Mr. Noodles packets with a layer of dust on them, and ah! Lady luck was smiling tonight; a can of snausages. She absently checked that the miniature excuses for meat substance hadn't expired some decade ago, when you don't eat one rarely cares what is taking up space in the kitchen. However, happily it wasn't expiring until next year, and so she headed to the balcony. The brujah slid the door open with her foot, temporarily raising the volume in the apartment before shutting it behind her again in one fluid movement.

"Husha yo face, mama's talkin' to the boss lady. And the boss lady'll throw ya right over the balcony if ya keep it up." She said to the overgrown canine that seemed no calmer for her presence. And his general complaints about being left outside turned to complaints about being left outside with Dana for company.

"Yeah yeah I'm dead, bark bark bark." She said in a soothing and almost gentle tone that one would never expect to hear from the brujah. "Look, you want the cocktail weenies or not?" She said holding out the can with one hand and making a hush gesture with the other, whether he was well trained or just curious about the can it bought some silence. She sat herself down on a convenient milk crate at one end of the balcony and popped the top off the can. The small beige meat tubes in a gravy like substance was not terribly pleasing to the eye. Dana distantly wondered why anyone would buy them before pulling out one, tossing it down towards the dog who had chosen to sit as far as possible from the stranger who smelt like dead things. Cigarette still dangling from her lips the ember glowing in the darkness Dana had to let out a smile as Cash sniffed at the snausage while carefully eyeing her.
"I know it's no baby. Best we could do I'm afraid. Mama'll be out real soon though. Cross my heart."

Rory was startled by Donna's sudden directness. She stood to tend to her canine companion, but caught sight of Dana just as she slipped outside and onto the balcony. Rory gave a small smile, thankful for her help, but concerned - would he really calm down for a stranger?

"Five years," the ginger replied to Donna abruptly as she sat back down in her seat. She could practically feel what chance she had left at being taken seriously slip from her, but was quick to shrug it off. She was used to it by now. She knew too well those measly five years made her the baby of the group by far. Even in appearances, she could only really recall meeting one other vampire who looked younger than herself in Hamilton.

Outside, Cash tentatively nipped at the now thoroughly-examined cocktail sausage the unfamiliar woman had tossed before mowing the chunk of meat down, keeping his eyes on her. Did this thing have more of those tasty snausages?

Donna nodded at the answer took another drag of her cigarette and looked thoughtful. "So that would make you twenty something? How much of the blond is act to sucker people in to thinking you are harmless or as young as you look Chica? The reason I ask is around here you don't have to play or keep up pretenses around me or my own. And if you aren't playing at anything I pity you honey cause the worlds gonna chew you up and spit you out if you ain't got your shit together. Surprised it hasn't already if you aren't playing...."

Donna honestly wasn't trying to be a douche, it was just she cut straight to the chase. She told it like she saw it good and bad. She wanted to know why New York sent her there as far as she could see most of the people that the Prince of New York sent were either headaches or just an embarrassment to a set of fangs.

Monday, May 10th, 1999 - 12:22 am - Tisdale Apartments - Rory

"It's not an act," Rory replied, a little surprised by her own boldness. "And not to seem impudent or anything, but I've been chewed up and spat out before. Don't mistake me, Donna. Just 'cause I am the way I am doesn't mean I'm weak, or stupid. You don't need to worry about me, and I don't need your pity."

Such force of word was not entirely foreign to the ginger-haired vampire, but it certainly was not a common thing. Yet somehow, in this moment, it came to her naturally, as if some veteran warrior had been lurking just beneath her flesh and now emerged, rising to defend its young vessel. She felt each passionate word leap from her mouth without caution, felt each syllable and its meaning straight down to her core. It was, for her, an exhilarating moment of freedom, brought on by such a simple, honest confrontation. And she'd be lying if she didn't say she liked it.

"I'm not trying to be a bitch, either," Rory continued, resolve still shining clearly in her faintly glowing blue-green eyes, "O-or anything like that. You're clearly a strong lady - I respect that, and I appreciate your honesty with me. I mean... I don't get that a lot, y'know? But I can handle myself just fine. I won't be walked on by anyone. Not again. Never. That's a promise."

Rory could only hope that in spite of her innocent face and voice that she had gotten through to Donna (and even the others present) that she was more capable than her tender personality often suggested. She knew it wasn't a matter of words. It was a thing that had to be witnessed to be truly believed. She would have to put her words into motion by acting on them in every mission they took on, or battle they fought. But it was not so daunting a thing as she'd have thought it would have seemed, and it was because the young vampire knew she'd meant what she'd said. No part of her passionate (if not somewhat over-dramatic) speech had been empty or without great meaning. To her, proving herself was a challenge, one that she would rise to readily when the time came. Most importantly, Rory was ready.

She stood in the doorway after chucking the can into the parking lot of the grocery store across the road. "If you were sitting beside me or in reach I'd butt this cigarette out on your pretty little sissy boy face. But as it is I'm too old and lazy to spend the blood to move over there and do it before you could blink. " The Elder Brujah replied as she reached for the ashtray and butt it out. "Hey Mikey... You can come out now if you promise to be a good boy and not fuck up the new sink..."

There was a moment of silence but the Vampire that was missing a chunk of his face moped out of the room and sat sullenly on the floor.

Doug chuckled at Waylon, "Thank god it doesn't, I've grown rather fond of it. Scotty used to get so fucking pissed sometimes when I would do that in front of him." He trailed off as he thought again of his Sire and could feel the anger begin a slow simmer. He focused hard on pushing it off by telling himself, Scotty would beat the shit out of him for takin his eye off the ball, which was rapidly becoming his making sure these people, including his new Childe, could take care of themselves and being there when they couldn't.

Cash bounded up to Rory, thoroughly happy to be inside and well-fed. She leaned forward in her seat to ruffle his fur affectionately, but hushed him preemptively.

"No, stay down, hun. Sit nice, okay? Sit nice," she commanded with a soothing tone, planting a kiss on his nose,  "Were you good to Dana? She fed you, didn't she? Good stuff, huh?"

At this Rory looked to the aforementioned Brujah, smiling. "Thanks again," she said with a nod.

The Gangrel sat back and smiled, scratching the over-sized German Shepherd's head as she did. She looked at Donna, at the offered beverage. It occurred to her that she'd never actually drank beer before. And without a capable digestive system, most likely never would. Not that it bothered her - alcohol was another substance with which she hadn't much positive experience with.

"What's it taste like, that stuff? I can't drink it either." Although she felt like a dope for asking it such a question, Rory felt it was probably the only time she'd really get to ask.

"Liquid yeast,"  Waylon answered.  "Don't get me wrong.  On a hot day there was nothing better than a beer, straight from the bottle and so cold you could see the condensation trickling down the outside.  The thing was, the colder it got, the less flavour it had, so the only time it was worth drinking, you couldn't really taste it.  Of course if you really want a taste, give one of the beer swilling Brujah a french kiss.  Unfortunately, I'm not one of the available options, which wouldn't matter if you happened to swing in Donna's or Dana's direction."

"Or rather than letting mini red get his jollies you could just take a sip swish it around in your mouth and spit it out in the sink in the kitchen. All the taste with none of the vomiting." Donna said lazily though her dark eyes were fixed on the fury beast waiting for the bastard to snap at her.

Xiao did her best to calm a couple of the amateur girls who were close to hysteria the closer they got to having to go on stage.  One girl actually broke down into tears and had to be escorted out of the building.  After she got the women calmed down she went back to the dressing room for a quick breather.  While there she pulled out her cell phone and made a quick call to Fia.  "Hi Fia, its Xiao.  Just wanted to make sure that everything was ok."  Xiao hung up and pulled a thick envelope out of her bag and set it on the shelf of her locker where she was sure to remember it.  Then she took another quick shower and changed back into the tank and hot pants and then went back to circulate on the main floor.

Rory chuckled at Waylon's initial comment, listened with intent and some degree of awe as he described the foreign substance to her with novella-esque detail. But at the proposition of 'tasting a Brujah' and then of other 'available options', the Gangrel's freckled, youthful face twisted into an adorable scowl. Kissing - just another addition to her list of things she'd yet to have a pleasant experience with. She was beginning to wonder when they'd hit a conversational combo breaker. Not that she meant any offense to Waylon - he was undeniably witty and definitely handsome. Or any Brujah's for that matter - she was sure they tasted just fine. But romance and sexuality simply were't within her comfort zone anymore since Edward. Luckily, though, her sense of humour was still intact enough to grin and even give a small giggle at his comment without so much as a hint of her discomfort.

Rory looked to Donna. "Can I? I mean, don't wanna waste it or anything. But if you'd be okay with it, I wouldn't mind tasting it."

At her feet, Cash stirred slightly, looking inquisitively about the room but staying obediently silent for the time being.

"Sure grab a Rickard's Red out of the fridge and pop the cap have a swig and bring be the rest." Donna replied. "You likely wont like it since it aint blood. Beer is an acquired taste. Likely someone that drank it then you feeding from them would be idea but since we dont got any blood bags here you will just have to make do girlie."

Dana made a happy noise in her throat as Mike emerged from the bedroom, despite his long face, as she couldn't really tell with the large chunk missing. She reached her hand down to pat his head.
"How ya feelin' kiddo?" She asked as she pet back his hair.
Dana's eyes flicked up to Donna. "We brought blood back from our lil outing. S'in the fridge." The other female Brujah informed, "Which reminds me, ya hungry kiddo?" Dana said directed towards Mike, then paused. "Er...Both our current kiddos who might be feelin' a bit o' the munchies."

"Like shit... and yes... Ravenous." Mike replied sullenly. The night had been shit so far. Having to be locked up in a room while someone fixed his fuck up made him feel less like a human and more like a pet. It didn't help that the cute dark haired vampire was also petting him like some sort of mongrel.

"You can sit on a chair you know" Dana pointed out lightly as she moved to the kitchen to retrieve the butcher shop purchase, removing the clear plastic container from the fridge, looking like a much creepier version of take-out soup. "You want it in a cup or just in the container?" She hollered out into the living area. "And I could heat it up maybe...I haven't used a fuckin' microwave in like goddamn..." Dana started muttering incoherently to herself as she moved about the kitchen.

He watched Mike come out of the bedroom and sit down. He was clearly in a shitty spot. He was glad he went out but he was also glad he was back. Mike didn't need him running out on him. He needed to figure out a way to reach the kid and get him to trust him.
Get him to feel like everyone isn't watching him, get him engaged if possible. "OK", Doug said as he went to grab a beer, "We need a place, a time, how often and how long? I clearly have no idea for a place, anyone thats actually from around here have any suggestions?"

"Well, there's a question for me, Donna or Mike,"  Waylon said.  "Seeing as how we are the three locals.  My place isn't big enough but there is always Webster's Falls.  We can take over the park without too much difficulty and we're still out of the werewolf zone."

Rory quietly lifted herself off the couch somewhat tentatively and followed Doug and Dana into the kitchen to grab herself the offered Rickard's Red for a brief taste-testing. As she moved toward the other room, she eyed the man who had entered just a minute or so ago. He looked about as bad as he apparently felt. The young Gangrel looked sympathetic, unable to help but wonder just what had happened. She kept the question to herself, however, and continued into the kitchen without giving the matter a second thought. Cash trailed behind her obediently, just barely resisting the urge to inspect this new individual (and everyone else, for that matter).

She waited patiently behind the significantly larger vampire with a faint smile, wondering at just what this apparently bitter drink would taste like as she listened to the others discuss more pressing matters.

He grabbed a beer, popped it and passed it to Rory, "Knock yourself out. I'll finish it when you're done unless you want the whole thing", he said to her then turned back to the rest of them.

"It would be nice to have a couple of options. Mike? Donna? Any other places either of you can think of?"

Anywhere down near the waters edge in the blast radius would be pretty devoid of people as well if we don't want a lot of looky loos." Donna replied. "Dont forget my beer."

Rory thanked him as she took the chilled bottle from him, holding it awkwardly. She stepped up to the sink somewhat reluctantly. Was it really gonna taste bad? How could it if everybody drank the stuff so much? Then again, everybody ate pizza pockets, too... Rory cringed. Why was there so much sauce? And what was with that cheese? Cash nudged her out of her mental ramblings. A 'nudge' that nearly knocked the condensation-slicked bottle from her grip. "Alright, alright," she chided her canine companion, "I'll drink it."

The red-head adjusted her hold on the thing, gripping it in the much more casual 'by the neck' fashion. She screwed up her face in her own skewed variation of badass and tentatively took the bottle to her lips, tipped it slowly. She took about a mouthful of the amber liquid and held it there, cheeks puffed out slightly. Bubbles... and yeast... Yep.

Rory bent over the sink and spat out the beer. "Nnnlhk! Tastes like yeast bubbles!"

Waylon threw his arms up in the 'It's good' football position.  "And he calls it!" he cried out.  "Liquid yeast for the win."  He was trying very hard to find something redeeming in Mike's shattered face, some colour, some angle that made him something other than disgusting to look at.  So far, no luck.

The younger ginger emerged from the kitchen still tense with disgust. It would take some time for the taste to vanish from her mouth. "How can anyone drink this stuff?" she asked rhetorically. She stood in the entranceway with the opened bottle clutched inelegantly in her grasp. Cash trotted out of the kitchen looking almost smug, making his way into the living room and plunking down in front of Rory's now-vacant spot.

"Yech! Who wants it?" Rory said, thrusting the bottle as far away from her person as possible, as if its very presence offended her.

"Well mostly one opens their mouth, tips the liquid in and swallows. That's how most do it. 'Course you could always do it through yer nose but I don' recommend it. Specially with whisky. Clear out your sinus like fuckin' drain-o though." Dana said carrying a mug which, were this a normal occasion could have been hot chocolate or coffee, but the scarlet drips against the white ceramic made it much more macabre than that. She held it out to Mike.
"I ain't fuckin Betty Crockett Leave it to Beaver or what-the-fuck but I heated it up." And she had indeed, the thick cup of blood let off tiny wisps of steam.

He chuckled at Rory's reaction and nodded to Donna, "Looks like Rory has your beer", he said with a grin. He gave a slight acknowledging nod to Dana when she offered the warmed blood to Mike before speaking to Waylon. "I have no desire to let him know any more than he needs to know about what we're doing. It's a gut reaction and it could be wrong but right now I got nothing telling me to involve him anything I care about; Just my two cents." He nodded at Donna, "Course, ultimately, she's the one in charge of our little endeavor, she may have a different opinion."

He kept a watch to see how Mike would take the offer of assistance from Dana as he dropped down into the seat he vacated.
