Title: Using fonts on your posts
Post by: LadyJallyn on
Sometimes a bit of variety is nice and we like to use different fonts.

A good use for fonts is when you want to simulate your character reading something or even writing something.

This tutorial is designed to show you how to use code to change your fonts.
The site only has one setting as to what font we use and the fonts called Veranda, its a pretty simple font thats clean and easy to read. To change your font on your posts you need to use the font face button. It looks like this... (http://elmwood-rpg.com/forum/Themes/Elmwood/images/bbc/face.gif)

When you click that button you should see that it pops up a line of code that looks like this...

Code: [Select]
HERE
Normally you would just type inbetween the space marked 'here'. (no that doesnt show up when you hit the button I just typed that in to show where the body of text is usually inserted.)

To change the font all you need to do is insert the new font name. So you would need to delete the word Veranda and insert the new font you wish to use. If you have Word Pad or Microsoft word or any word document program on your computer, you can look up the different font names and insert them as needed.

For my example im going to use Comic Sans MS

Code: [Select]
Bob went to the store to buy a loaf of bread./font]which changes it to this once you actually submit your post.

Bob went to the store to buy a loaf of bread

Just be aware that whatever you change your font to if other people do not have that particular style of font on their comuputer they will not see the same font style as you.

Just remember to try and use fonts that are easy to read and if you really want to share a font and be sure everyone can see what type you are using to mention what font you are using in an ooc: comment.

To find some really neat and cool fonts names and fonts to download onto your computer. I highly recomend checking out http://www.1001freefonts.com if you arent sure how to install new fonts to your computer just PM me and I can walk you through it.

This concludes the Font Tutorial

See you on the boards and Happy posting!

Standard fonts found on most computers:
Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Courier New, Lucida Handwriting.

There is no garuntee that others will have the font you choose, but the list above is generally found on most computers.  A person must have the font installed on the computer to be able to view it on the site.
