Greetings and salutations to all. Welcome to The Elmwood!
The Elmwood was created back in September of 2001 by Lady Jallyn. The site was created as a place for people to gather to share their love of writing and role playing. Since its beginnings on MSN and its move to World Groups, its newest home is here on its own independent site.
Now all of you know that The Elmwood is an RPG community but I feel it NECESSARY to explain a few things that make us different than some RP communities.
We are a close bunch. We believe in being friendly towards members, to work together and write together in this place. We respect our members and over time develop some great writing relationships. Its what makes us different from other communities.
With the moderated RPGs you will have a chance to co-write with other members. They interact with your character but will also co-write (or Co post) by writing simultaneously with another member via messenger programs (we use ICQ and MSN) how your character interacts with others and vice-versa. This is why we ask that you submit a detailed character biography for moderated threads. Members may then better understand what your character is about and what what personality traits they may have.
Now this may seem odd to people that are members to other RP sites but it is something we do. You can to a limited extent, write for another person's character, from your character's point of view, to advance the storyline as long as it is done In Character, and doesn't put that other person's character into a life threatening situation.
NPC characters can be used and created in a similar fashion so be sure to ask your Moderator if you wish to create or use some and they will provide you with the information. That's the way group writing is done and members can find this a new, different/challenging system.
If you have problems with this sort of game play then The Elmwood is not for you.
We will not bend or compromise the rules to match that of any other site.
Please be sure to read our code of conduct page and be aware that the threads are continuously active. We do not halt game play if you are busy with Real life or on Hiatus, however you moderator will work to find a reasonable way to pull your character out of a story line and onto a back burner until your return if you so desire. Merely Private message them and let them know.
We also host UNMODERATED threads where you can make up what ever rules you wish. Be advised that The Elmwood is a mature community. However if Management deems threads as being pornographic or too extreme or the material within we feel is inappropriate we will remove those offending works without warning.
Read previous posts on a RP thread to familiarize yourself with the story before jumping in and enjoy!
We insist that members read at least the last 50 posts of any given storyline that they wish to join so that they have an idea of what is going on in the story lines, this is for everyone's benefit.
